Problems Getting Full Screen With 480i Widescreen
« on: December 05, 2007, 12:53:00 AM »

Hi guys,

I am using the regular AV cable for now on my HDTV but i have enabled widescreen (so i am running 480i widescreen). My HDTV is set to the "full" aspect setting, and XBMC is set to "NTSC 16:9". I've already set the overscan to fit my screen size in the video settings as well. When i try to watch a 16:9 anime like, say, Death Note (704 x 396) shouldn't it fill up my entire screen perfectly? I still see black bars on the top and bottom though, even with all the video options (normal, original, etc.)

Could it possibly be that because i'm running in 480i, XBMC doesn't "know" to output the video in a widescreen format that should be filling up the entire screen? (Since 480i is typically a 4:3 and not 16:9 standard).

Anybody have any suggestions?

Thanks!!!

my guess is you have the video player resolution set to somthing else  (Setting\Video\Player)
or you havn't adjusted your Pixel aspect ratio properly

hey jezz,

Thanks! that was definitely the problem...... cant believe i missed it.

Now, the only question left: is it worth it to get a component cable to view XBMC/videos at 720p? Don't HDTVs already do "upscaling" of video to their native resolutions? (Mine is 720p native, capable of handling 1080i signals)

Thanks again!
