Running Scripts From A Different Partition
« on: October 26, 2007, 12:09:00 AM »

Hi Everybody,

I'm an avid user of XBMC, and I think it's fantastic.  Thank you to the devs that have made my xbox so much more.

I have XBMC set up as my main dashboard, which means it runs from my relatively small C: partition.  I have about 4G free on E: and about 20 on F:, and I run scripts such as Apple Movie Trailers from a partition where there's more elbow room (doing a full update of the script fills the C: partition up).  I have it running off of drive E: successfully, but it doesn't show up in the scripts folder.  Is there a way to add folders to the top-level scripts menu in XBMC?  I couldn't find an xml config file entry for it anywhere.

XBMC T3CH 2007-10-07 is what I'm running.

Thanks much in advance.

Scripts probably have the functionality to run from anywhere, just not from the scripts window unless they are in Q:\scripts.

XBMC takes up a lot of space.  Installing to C: is NOT recommended.

I suggest your best route is to install to E: instead, and leave the scripts where they are normally located, within the scripts folder.

Interesting.  Forgive me if this sounds totally stupid and noobish, but can I run my main dash from a drive that isn't C: ?  Or are you suggesting that I use XBMC as a secondary app that runs out of E:\apps?

I guess one thing I can be sure you're suggesting is that I go read the xbmc manual in your sig.  I'll do that now.

Thanks for the tip

Thanks jmarshall, I found my answer in the wiki in your sig.

For anybody that wants an answer in the future, this is what I should have done from the beginning:
