I have serious problems adding my shared folders on a Seagate FreeAgent 500GB external drive, to XBMC through SMB. I bought this external drive not long ago. And now I can't use it? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)
My other external drives Freecom and WD MyBook work good with SMB and Xbox.
But when I create and add a shared folder from my external WD MyBook 320GB or from my computer everything works in XMBC so I can see the files.

But shared folder are not visible under "My Network places" under Windows XP Pro SP2. Can WinXP updates have something with this problem?
I have created an account in WinXP for the xbox. And give the shared folder this account. The account has read rights. The account is setup with password never expires. Easy filesharing is unchecked in WinXP.

Where is it wrong?
Doesn't the FreeDrive support SMB?

Updated to newest XBMC
I have the XBMC 23rd 2007 Svn Rev10329 Build. Network through DHCP. A router that gives the xbox the same IP always, and the computer is assigned another IP.

Dang, anyone figure out a solution to this prob? I'm having the same issue with my 500GB FreeAgent. I have the T3CH 12_17_07 build, and softmodded xbox.

Some files and folders are shared just fine, others ask for un/pw and won't let me do anything. No predictable pattern (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

Those Seagates gave me a headache. I had the freeagent pro 750GB and it would never work properly so I returned it. Seagate support team blows too.
