Do you have a firewall of sorts?  In the failed log, it looks to be trying to use port 445 for SMB instead of 139.

Check to see if 445 is allowed through.

Jezz,

And until you run with a new build (after the 23rd), this won't be looked at any further.

I actually tried this with a home compiled build of the 27th for me 26th for you (but stopped using it because I ran into a problem of the IP address setting keybord didn't work) But I will compile another build as of right now and try it again.   And why would the 445 port be used in the new version but not the old ? Is it a standard port for samba ? looks like the old version used port 137
I am running Outpost pro firewall but I completely unloaded it and tried again as well as Norton anivirus (not internet security) and I do not have windows firewall running
I would also like to point out that my xbox is placed in my trusted zone section of my firewall so its allowed to do anything on my network without getting blocked

But like I said I'll compile a new build right now and try again and see if I can get my firewall to ignore all port 445 for my xbox even though I'm sure it allready does

I would also like to point out that dvd2xbox which I think uses the old way xbmc did to access samba currently has no problems as well

Post new logs with new build.

As for 445, yes, 445 is a standard port for smb.  Search google.

well.. as said before port 445 is a standard port for samba so it should work.. but it is timeing out.. could you increse the timeout value for samba and try again.. should be in gui settings (if it wasn't removed allready, then in xboxmediacenter.xml, clienttimeout).. the standard samba value is 40.. we have it set to 10.

the problem seem to be that your computer accepts the connection to 445, but then just doesn't return any valid data.. if it had blocked 445, it would have fallen back to 139 i think

nice info on port 445

I found my solution. Turn out my WMI was corrupted and after fixing that, SMB is working.  smile.gif

I've used SharePoints on the mac to set up the SMB share and I've opened up read/write permissions to everyone.  Used to work on the November 2005 release.

Any ideas?

Hi

I was having a similar problem after updating to the 13/04/06 release.

I run a Linux NAS box called NASLITE, it is a small Linux build with Samba shares, no passwords. Was all working 100% prior to updating to the 13/04 build, I then started having issues with it not always seeing my workgroup. Sometimes it would work, sometimes not. I thought it was perhaps a cable problem or something but after investigation ruled this out. Conection to the internet was working 100% and I was able to FTP files to the local hard drive for playback, I only has to do this a few times when I could not access the Samba share. This issue, whatever was causing it, however seems to have been rectified as I am now running the 27/04 build and have had no issues

strange that you had an intermeittent problem with a previous build and it seems to work fine on the 27th Apr release.  How do you know it's still not intermittent and that you're in a period when it's working.   (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

I was hoping someone would know what the write errors meant.  It looks like it's trying to write back to my mac's external drive which doesn't seem right.  It's just a straight read surely?
