Xbox And Windows Ics (good Challenge For Experts)
« on: March 04, 2006, 05:10:00 AM »

Hello all,
              I post a topic in this forum, because I have not seen an answer to my issue anywhere. Here is what I am trying to do: see videos in the Xbox connected to my TV that are stored in a remote 2nd PC which is connected via ICS to a 1st PC.

OK, I´ll try to put a clear picture of my configuration:

-ADSL -> Wifi Router with the following devices connected:
+   XBOX (on ethernet port of the router)
+   Remote wifi network consisting of 2 PCs:
   -    1st PC connected via Wifi with USB dongle
   -    2nd PC connected to the 1st PC via twisted cable and ICS

For the moment I have no issue in connecting 1st PC via SMB to XBox. The issue comes when trying to connect the XBox to the 2nd PC. As you can see, the 2nd PC is connected to the 1st using windows ICS.

Configuration: 1st PC=W2k; DHCP on wifi (192.168.1.11) ; Static on Ehernet NIC (192.168.0.1)
                      2nd PC=XP ; Static on Ethernet NIC (192.168.0.2)
                      XBox=Static 192.168.1.14
                      Wifi router = 192.168.1.10

Does someone know how to do this. Of course an alternative would be to connect both PCs to a 2nd Wifi router or to buy a 2nd Wifi card on the 2nd PC, but I like challenges and spending little money, so please give me a hint on this one.

Thanks.

$50 for the router and $50 for the wifi is worth it. It all depends on how much time you are willing to put into it (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

XBox=Static 192.168.1.14

I like a challenge

1. xbox and 1st pc on same network = works fine
2. 2nd pc on subnet hence diff IP range = xbox cant see shares
3. 1st pc running ics (dhcp) means it assigned Ip to 2nd pc, wifi router should be allowed to assign all IP addresses to network but DHCP is not routable protocol.
4. running some kind of dhcp relay on the 1st pc would allow the wifi router to assign an IP to the 2nd pc = sorted.

hope this made sense cos it lost me  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/jester.gif)

NB: u could try assigning IP addresses to 2nd nic on 1st pc and nic on 2nd pc in the range of 192.168.1.*  and disable ICS
