.wma Files
« on: February 26, 2006, 01:55:00 PM »

Hi there,

I've recently bought an album on Napster. The files say Windows Media ™ Audio Track.

However, they'll only play in Napster and not xbmc which is where I want them to play.

Any ideas how I might be able to get them to play in xbmc? I've tried burning to CD and then ripping back to mp3 but no joy I'm afraid!!

Thanks

My feeling would be that the files are DRM encrypted.  If you not familiar with this read here.  You will not be able to play the files that you paid for on a device not authorized by Napster.  Stupid huh?

As for burning a CD and ripping it, that should work.  It's not lossless and it's a pain but you may not care.  If you used Windows Media Player to rip it you may have had the "Copy Protect Music" option clicked in the Tools-Options-Rip Music tab.

Good luck.  Too bad they have to make life difficult for people that actually pay for music.

WRONG - There are tons of programs and dlls out there that convert wma that are protected to mp3s that arent.  Most of the time you have to play the file in windows media player and record it at the same time with another device.

Use google, but dont ask where to get the files, i can't help you there.
