MS Dash
Avalaunch plays DVDs? Leaked code? Hmm, might need to do some digging to find what that's about. I figure XBOX dash has built in DVD Player capabilities, why bother use anything else?

I am waiting for XBMC to add that though

But, for the most part, before i watch the DVD i'll run it through AutoGK and just watch the AVI with XBMC. Much more convinient for me to do that.

I use MSDash since I recently got the playback kit - using the region-free MSDash hasn't given me any problems yet.

I am waiting for XBMC to officially come out with DVD menu support though. It's kind of weird that the do-all program does EVERYTHING except that. I guess there are reasons though.

Also, have any of you had problems with using the MSDash player through another dash? I had setup my UnleashX to use the MSDash but I noticed every 5 seconds or so the picture would skip very slightly. Now, I have to boot up the original kernel and alternate my modchip (on/off).

I play my DVDmovies  with XBMC.

I've found a good way to play movies in the correct language with the correct subtitles:

With DVD decrypter, I put the files on my PC. Then I use the re-author function of DVDshrink. There I just select the main movie, correct language file and the correct subtitle. Then just push the BACK-UP button; and you'll end up with an ISO file with the main movie/correct language/correct subtitle.

If you start this in XBMC (via the VIDEO_TS folder) it works without any problem (I mount the DVD image on a virtual drive and use SMB). Also the subtitles do work fine.

I dont like avalaunch but i must say that their dvd player is easily the best of all of them.

Isn't Avalaunch's DVD Player based on the original MS DVD Player? I know I read about that somewhere

Anyway, I use XBMC's internal DVD Player and if a DVD I try to play with XBMC doesn't work properly, I just press 8 on my universal remote to load up the MS DVD Player.

*Props to the XBMC Team for working up the DVD player without using source code from other Xbox DVD Players / Dashboards. From what I tested & used so far, it's coming along VERY nicely

For those using MS Dash to play DVD's ...

Once you have stopped PLAY how do you exit from MS Dash and return to XBMC ?

The only way I seem to be able to do it is if I press EJECT or RESET the whole XBOX.

Hope someone has answers

Yeah, that's the only downside to using the MS Dash player, I have to reboot as well. Like I said, I tried using the MS Dash through UnleashX and the video was slightly skipping for some reason. Since my Xbox gets used more for movies than games, I have my Xenium boot the MS kernel by default and if I need to use any dashboards I have my BIOS configured to another button.

Is the XBMC menu support public yet or is it still a secret?

XBMC DVD Menu Support is still in BETA and therefore not public knowledge.

If you can read the code in the CVS its pretty easy to figure out how to enable it.

** Can a mod edit the 2nd line out if I'm not allowed to say this.

I cant even play DVD's with MSDash, DongleFree DVD, or XMBC because I am using that X2VGA adapter for my VGA monitor...

Anyone else been able to watch DVD's whilst using this X2VGA adapter?

* It goes into that "wide" interlaced 480i mode... but the picture shows...
