Mc360 Via Composite In On My Tft Monitor
« on: August 06, 2006, 06:28:00 AM »

Cause of my VIVO 6600GT graphics card I was wondering if I could hook up the Xbox to my PC on my beautiful 19" TFT and hurraaay after some searching it worked, though its not really superb yet and other people who do the same might have some tips.

I'm using Virtual VCR, which is for now the best video capturing software it seems, but the Xbox is running at 720x576 and the FPS or atleast when playing a game it isn't that decent yet, a lot of stripes on screen when there's a lot of fluent action happening. How do I get MC360 (and games) running on a higher/high-def resolution? It doesn't look that nice if I run it in full-screen.

In your dashboard (MS) settings you must be using NTSC (You can use Enigmah Video-switch, also a full composite cable R/G/B audio L/R) to open the further video options, you will see the following options on the 'Video settings' Widescreen/Normal/Letterbox then below that you will see 'Does your TV support?' 480p yes/no 720p yes/no 1080i yes/no. Once you have set all that up any games which support a higher definition/resolution will automatically use those settings. As such mc360 doesn't utilise HD but you can select the options in the systems blade (as long as the dashboard settings are correct to begin with).

Hope that helps  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Thanks for the reply but how do I change my dashboard to NTSC? Since I'm using a PAL Xbox and I don't have that Enigmah switch, is there an other possibility?

Sorry can't seem to edit my post, so there is no possibility to switch to a higher resolution in games and in MC360 via PAL? Only NTSC?

Only NTSC mode supports HD resolutions, sorry but you will need to get 'Enigmah Switchmode'. My Xbox is also PAL (UK) and by using the Enigmah Switchmode I can run in upto 1080i (where supported), obviously you are modded/softmodded to be running xbmc/mc360. Google for Enigmah or search Xbox-scene.  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Well I got the Enigmah Video Select CD and tossed it into my Xbox, put the region to NTSC, but I don't see any changes in the dashboard. Do I need to do something else also to make that extra Video Options showup in the MS Dashboard?

Edit: Do I need those Advanced High Definition AV pack? I'm using the default composite cable of the Xbox to plug it into my graphics card via a composite in cable.

Yes you need component cables to do HD. Wich your card can't handle so you can just give up on this. But if you wanna still use this atleast use the svhs cables. But the picture will still be better on your regular tv

The bog standard cable cannot give HD, the advanced scart cannot give HD, S-Vhs cannot give HD.....the only cables which can are ones like this one --->(IMG:http://img133.imageshack.us/img133/1386/xboxcomponentcablelargerd5.jpg)
From here

Only then will the extended options in the MS dashboard be open to you! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Looks like the price has gone up too, I paid £7.50 + P&P (total of £10.50), but well worth it when you consider the MS version is £30 (if you can find one that is).

No it doesn't offer Digital Out, but it does allow better screen quality on my TV, using the Advanced Scart (which does have Digital Out) makes my screen fuzzy and also misaligned by about 20mm to the right. It's a small sacrifce but I can live without DTS I can't have a fuzzy/distorted screen.  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)
So they ain't crappy  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)  Especially not for how little they cost.  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cool.gif)

yes, your video card can do composite in, but that's not what he said. he said you can't do component in, which is different than composite. composite video only supports standard definition, not high definition. im pretty sure most vivo cards dont have component in. so you're pretty much stuck in the lower resolution. however, to get rid of the lines you are talking about, you need to get another tv software that can deinterlace the video.

Ok, now I get it, indeed my graphics card doesnt have a component in, only a composite. What TV software would you recommend then? Any idea? Currently I'm getting the best quality with Nero 7 Ultra Edition, but you don't have much options there (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif).

If you just want to view the signal, I use Media Player Classic (File -> Open Device . . . )  It also has video recording capabilities, but Nero is probably easier to use for that.

Also, my Nvidia VIVO card also has svideo in.  If yours does too, you might get slightly better video quality than from composite.

Well, mine does too, but the svideo in has a different input then the comp in. I've just also tried DScaler but it seems to give a pretty big slowdown on the screen. If I use Nero for capturing there is like no slowdown at all.
