Custom 'blade Change' Sound?
« on: June 21, 2006, 05:30:00 PM »

Is there a named event in http://manual.xboxmediacenter.de/wakka.php...appingXML&v=6gu that matches the Blade Change event in mc360?

im trying to build a custom sound pack with a little "woosh" for the blades, but i cant figure out what to add to the sounds.xml to make it specific to a blade swap.

any thoughts?

I think the blade sound is the same sound you get when you press left or right on the d-pad.  I don't think there is a specific "blade" sound, but I could be wrong.

No, it is not the same. It is a whoosh sound that goes lower and higher in tone as you flip through the blades. I recorded almost every sound the xbox360 makes using my mp3 player, but i tried to convert a perfect soundpack the other day, and it's no longer on there. Mustve accidently deleted it. Also, the blade changing is done by the top left right triggers instead, which is easily fixed by modding the keymap.xml file.
Also, as far as i understood after reading some yesterday, that pretty much all the tags supported by xbmc are supported to attach a wav file to, so it's possible very much to make a perfect sound replacement if one could get the sounds again. I realize the patents stuff for sounds, but that's not much different then any user using any sound they have to replace anything on there computer with the legal consent of the maker, and that's not likely someone would sue for that for real. Most sounds on the internet used for replacement sounds (IE-AIM,YAHOO,GAIM,Trillian, general pc sound replacements) aren't legal to use without consent by the owner/maker.(Not including public domain sounds of course.)

If we could get the triggers to swap blades, then its possible to assign a sound SPECIFICLY to the blade change... but by the looks of it that might be more of a project than im willing to do. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

Also, for some reason the .wav files i've got picked out cause xbmc to crash. *shrug*

thanks.

I tried adding this functionality to keymap.xml, but it didn't work. It only works when you move from the Media blade to somewhere else, then it doesn't work. I think it's due to the different nature of the "Home" screens in MC360.

The control over sound effects is very very old, the code is from XBMC 1.1.0, it needs a huge update.

This wont happen untill XBMC 2.0 Final has been released. There are so many cool ideas on hold because of the feature freeze in XBMC atm.

The sounds will get a cool boost after 2.0, I promise.

http://www.tintense.com/details.php?file=8

i'm not saying its that good however if someone is wanting to get on with creating sounds now and test em out its a good place to start.

When creating my 360 sound pack i hit similar problems. You could link a sound to each window activation/deactivation but that wouldn't simulate the differing sounds as the blade changes for different directions. it would also have the problem of the navigation sound playing before blade changes. so it would be like blip-swoosh rather then just swoosh like it is on the 360. i made a compromise and just made the left-right sounds 2 distinct swoosh sounds. when recording the blade swoosh sounds i concluded that there are really only 2 sounds being played. i recorded each of the blade changes and compared and just isolated the 2 sounds. i know that the 360 alternates these sounds but i compromised and just chose one for left and one for right.

here is my wav list
back.wav <- back up B navigation sound
click.wav <- A select blip sound

left.wav <- left blade sound
right.wav <- right blade sound
cursor.wav <- up/down navigation sound

forward.wav <- go into selection from main blades
exit.wav <- back out to main blades sounds

open.wav <- open system/side blade sound
close.wav <- close system/side blade sound
popup.wav <- xbox live profile sign in sound(used for volume window activation and info dialog)
start.wav <- initial loading of blades sound

shutter.wav <- orginal shutter sound
splash.wav <- startup animation sound(not currently used in my sounds.xml) i want it displayed while the splash.png is being displayed but have been unable too.

I tried to simulate it the best by linking the sounds to window ids or window names. on custom windows like game trailers and quicktime movies you can use the window id like 1118 for quicktime trailers and 1119 for game saves. full list http://manual.xboxmediacenter.de/wakka.php...ndowList&v=13k6

using the left and right sounds as the blade navigation introduces the bug of having them play in my * file navigatoin and system settings when going left and right obviously.

It could be easily fixed if you could have a global sound actions and then could assign a few custom actions sounds per window name/id.

Here is my sounds.xml if you want to take a look. I think it works pretty well

Wow. thats EXACTLY what i was looking for.

only problem is i only have 1/2 the 360 sounds needed by your sound.xml <sigh>. more google for me.

I'll give that a try on next weeks T3CH build as i seem to be having some extreme problems atm.
