When creating my 360 sound pack i hit similar problems. You could link a sound to each window activation/deactivation but that wouldn't simulate the differing sounds as the blade changes for different directions. it would also have the problem of the navigation sound playing before blade changes. so it would be like blip-swoosh rather then just swoosh like it is on the 360. i made a compromise and just made the left-right sounds 2 distinct swoosh sounds. when recording the blade swoosh sounds i concluded that there are really only 2 sounds being played. i recorded each of the blade changes and compared and just isolated the 2 sounds. i know that the 360 alternates these sounds but i compromised and just chose one for left and one for right.
here is my wav list
back.wav <- back up B navigation sound
click.wav <- A select blip sound
left.wav <- left blade sound
right.wav <- right blade sound
cursor.wav <- up/down navigation sound
forward.wav <- go into selection from main blades
exit.wav <- back out to main blades sounds
open.wav <- open system/side blade sound
close.wav <- close system/side blade sound
popup.wav <- xbox live profile sign in sound(used for volume window activation and info dialog)
start.wav <- initial loading of blades sound
shutter.wav <- orginal shutter sound
splash.wav <- startup animation sound(not currently used in my sounds.xml) i want it displayed while the splash.png is being displayed but have been unable too.
I tried to simulate it the best by linking the sounds to window ids or window names. on custom windows like game trailers and quicktime movies you can use the window id like 1118 for quicktime trailers and 1119 for game saves. full list
http://manual.xboxmediacenter.de/wakka.php...ndowList&v=13k6using the left and right sounds as the blade navigation introduces the bug of having them play in my * file navigatoin and system settings when going left and right obviously.
It could be easily fixed if you could have a global sound actions and then could assign a few custom actions sounds per window name/id.
Here is my sounds.xml if you want to take a look. I think it works pretty well
