Video Mode Selection Doubt

I have a softmodded v1.6 PAL Xbox, with silent fan and 160GB HDD.

Backed up several NTSC games I bought for, long time ago.

So I got Enigma VideoMode Bootdisc and ran it as an application. Changed the region to NTSC, rebooted, and my TV (a very old one) flickered constantly, as if something definitely went wrong. Rebooted again, and it worked fine.

And the cool thing is that, since then, I can run both PAL and NTSC backups! Does this have a logical explanation I don't know of?
