Web Browser In Xbox
« on: December 19, 2006, 10:21:00 PM »

Hi there.. I basicaly use the Xbox just to run XBMC.. I pretty much use it for nothing else.

Often I wish I had web browsing in the Xbox to check some sites and look at streaming video and stuff.. but have never been able to find a webbrowser for the Xbox.

Can anyone recommend one to me.. pref one that I can use with XBMC? Any suggestions would help I can find the software IF i know what the software is called

Well, you could run a Linux distro, like Damn Small Linux, and use whichever browser you want from within there.

Linksboks is what you're probably looking for.  It runs as an XBE

THey're integrating into XBMC too so you can run it while playing videos or something soon...

Can you run linux distro as an application? I'm running unleashed X and want to be able to browse without having to change the dashboard. I've heard about linkbox but I would prefer to use a full browser with the ability to stream video. whats the best method for me?

You can run xDSL as an application.  You can get it from the usual places if I recall correctly.  I used to run it as an app on my old Xbox.

You can find informations about X-DSL at http://www.x-dsl.org.
The LinksBoks Wiki ist at ysbox.online.fr

I prefer X-DSL. Linksboks doesn't support CSS so most sites look a bit... strange.
You can run X-DSL as a Linux-LiveCD.

Jorden, go to http://www.x-dsl.org/wiki/Main_Page and read up mate.
It's right in front of you, under News and in the manual.

G'luck!

I thought Firefox was open source? Or did they change it to just releasing products? Well Idk but maybe a Firefox port could be possible sometime in the future... I'm sure I'm not the first person to think of this, but please don't flam me if there is some huge 45 paged topic about it somewhere I didn't care to look for it nor do I now, just thought I'd help. sleep.gif

You need to burn dsl onto a dvd which your xbox can read.  Then you can install it on a portion of your hard drive if you prefer.  You can also boot from the disk every time but I think its best to install it on your hard drive if you want to save changes you made after you use it.
