Region-free Dvd Playback
« on: October 01, 2006, 04:47:00 AM »

Is there any homebrew DVD playback software other than XBMC and DVD-X2.0?

XBMC has way too many problems with DVDs (crashes every hour or so, can't rewind) and DVD-X2 works great but has a horrible user interface.

You can patch the MS Dash to be region-free.  Or use XBMC 2.0.0.

Do you have a link to such a patch? I got an ISO file from xbins that supposedly patches the Dashboard, but the CD didn't boot and extracting and starting it manually didn't work either.

I am running XBMC 2, but I'm still having the same problems with DVD playback I had with 1.X.

You can get it from the Xbox-Scene tools section or xbins.  IIRC there are two, each dependant on dash version.  At any rate, I know it can be done to 4290 and 5690, etc.
