Keyboard And Mouse From Same Port
« on: January 02, 2006, 11:55:00 AM »

I was wondering if there was a way to connect a mouse and a keyboard to the xbox without using the smartjoy/smartfrag or whatever it's called option. I have a USB adapter and a combo wireless keyboard/mouse. Can I plug that into the one adapter port and run both? My keyboard always works... do I need to install something for the mouse?

Yes? No? Maybe so?

The wireless receiver plugs into one USB port and both the keyboard and the mouse work when it's plugged into my computer. Will this work for my xbox?

I have linksboks installed and was wondering if I will have to worry about problems similar to surfing the web from a computer, such as spam and trojans, because as far as I know, there is no protection software for an xbox.  But also to stay on topic.  I have a smartfrag but linksboks dosent use the fuul capabilities of the keyboard and mouse does it.  When I tryied using the keyboard and mouse, the mouse didnt work and the keyboard didnt do much.  DO I need to change some settings somewhere or is this program not quite that far yet.  Thanks

without the smart frag you cant use a mouse and keyboard in the sameplug. you could make both plugs(3&40 and use a mouse and a keypad. thats what i do. but you also have a wireless mouse and keyboard combo so you could wire the reciever inside your xbox and be good to go. asfor security i have no clue.

There's one game that can use a keyboard. I can't remember the name, but I'm pretty sure it was an MMORPG.

I have a wireless Keyboard / mouse with just 1 USB wire from the reciever. Most xbox apps / emus only see the keyboard not the mouse. Only unix will see the mouse. Think it has something to do with the XDK libs.

Unless the software has support for keyboard & mouse then it won't work regardless of how your setup is.

Most homebrew if they support anything will be a keyboard, generally. XBMC supports both, as does Linux obviosuly.

I have a usb keyboard and mouse attached to a 4 port USB hub which is connected to port3 on my xbox via a USB to xbox cable. Both work fine in Linux and XBMC. So I fail to see why the wireless setup wouldn't work in the same fashion.

As for commercial xbox games, no way. Except as mentioned PSO. The Smart Frag thing CONVERTS your keyboard presses and mouse movements into xbox controller signals (as far as I would guess) so that from the xbox's point of view, it still thinks there is a controller attached.

I bet their is a way to use a keyboard and mouse on the Xbox. You guys act like you're totally dependent on developers providing the support, yet I see people flying cars and crap from mods in Halo 2. Put up mod requests in the homebrew section to allow true support for these games. Halo is on PC, RTCW is on PC, you would think a game like RTCW that was originally on the PC, wouldn't take much effort to revert back. Just my 2 cents.

It's possible, sure, but it's not by any stretch of the imagination easy. Disassembling the game to find the input loop, and then inserting the debug keyboard/debug mouse XDK calls, is harder than most game mods (which are often based on modifying data files only, not the executable code).
