Dvd-x And Closed Captions
« on: November 10, 2005, 10:05:00 PM »

Hello all,

Hopefully someone out there has some experience with the dvd-x program and may have experienced this. Seems like any DVD I play in this otherwise fine program has English subtitles turned on (white lettering inside a blacked-out border like you see on a TV at a sports bar). I've tried all sorts of combinations turning off subtitles on each DVD's menu, and no luck. I've searched dvdx's settings menu as well to see if there's some setting there, but I found nothing for controlling closed captions.

With a Harry Potter movie, for example, just for kicks I turned on French subtitles, and what do you know, I saw French words in white without any black border, with the English subtitles (white in a blacked-out box) just like before. It's as if the DVD subtitle menu is controlling one set of subtitles, but not the one I'm trying to get rid of.

I really like this little program - I don't want a full blown media center; just want the kids to be able to play DVDs on the XBox easily.

Anyone have any idea how I can diagnose this further or solve the problem?
