Help With Px Hdd Loader And Dvd2xbox
« on: November 02, 2005, 02:04:00 AM »

Hello all. Long time reader, first time poster.  :P
My question is this, I am using PX HDD loader v1.1a and was thinking of upgrading to v1.3 and I dont want to lose my game backups, thus, do I just copy the game files - PXHDDGame..blah blah to the 1.3's game folder?
Also if I was to maybe start using my dvd2box app to copy the games (and delete the PX HDD app) could I just copy the PXHDDGame..blah blah's to my HDD's games folder (and rename them respectively ofcourse) before deleting the app?

Man I hope that made sense to someone!
Look forward to hearing your replys.

Cheers.

Hey Manta,

Ok this is something I ran into...you have to understand that the app PXHDDLoader and the PXHDDloader folder (for game backups) are separate things.  On my Xbox hard drive (120 gig Maxtor replacement for stock hard drive), HDDloader (the program) is saved at F:\Apps\HDDLoader.  My HDDLoader folder (for game backups) is saved at F:\HDDLoader.  If you are wanting to save all your game backups (FTP to your PC), then you need to copy the entire HDDLoader folder where your game backups are to your PC.  You shouldn't need to do this though IF you are just wanting to delete your old PxHDDLoader app (to upgrade from 1.1a to 1.3--which you should since 1.3 has so many more helpful options than the older versions.)  Just FTP in and delete the old HDDLoader APP (not the folder where your game backups are!), then boot to your Evox dash (or whatever dash you use), then go to the MS Dashboard and delete the HDDloader save, then boot back to Evox (or whatever you use for your dash), then FTP back into your Xbox and save your NEW (1.3) version of PxHDDloader in the partition where your OLD (1.1) version of PxHDDLoader was saved.  One thing I WILL warn you about...a friend of mine did this (from the PxHDDLoader program I edited slightly), and it deleted ALL his game backups!  So you might want to save your game backups first...just a thought.  I am fairly sure the reason his game backups were deleted was because the version of PxHDDLoader I sent him was the 1.3 version which I modified very slightly--I added a default.tbn file (that I made); the default.tbn file is used by Xbox Media Center to show icons for programs/games/emulators on the Xbox hard drive.  I think since I added this file it screwed up the file associations somehow in my buddy's Xbox...I never did understand why it happened.  Oh and as far as DVD2Xbox is concerned...it is all I use now for game backups on my Xbox.  The reason for this is because DVD2Xbox does a better job *signing*? *patching*? the games as they are saved...I have had issues with game backups not playing from the hard drive when saved with PxHDDLoader, but they have ALWAYS worked perfectly for me when I used DVD2Xbox.  And yes if you decide to use DVD2Xbox for game backups, you would need to move your game backups inside the HDDLoader folder to the Games folder (where DVD2Xbox saves game backups).  I am not sure if you would need to rename the game backup folders from say PxGame0, PxGame1 to something else...I do know that DVD2Xbox saves game backups into folders named after the game's title taken from its default.xbe.  Hope that helps :).

I decided to use dvd2xbox for backups now, for the reasons you mentioned and the fact the new version looks very shmiko cool.gif . I used the text file found in the PX HDDLoader game folder to rename the games appropriately, then copied them to my games folder. Every thing seems to be ticking along nicely! smile.gif

Thanks again mate for your help, much appreciated!

Okah,
i just dont understand the copy xbox games...i use dvd2xbox and the game is like encrypted? or something so i heard on these new games.  people say the px hdd loader 1.3a will fix old backups and bypass encryption.  sounds awesome to me so i look into the peopl's website and find that they tell me to look in "usual places" to download the program on their website. im frusterated cause half my games will copy but i click to run them and it locks up box on a black screen

Hope that helps! biggrin.gif  As far as how to set up/send DVD2Xbox over to your xbox if you decide to get the newest version of DVD2Xbox...just do a search in the Xbox-scene forums; there are answers wink.gif and  tutorials also.
