I'd think after doing things like deleting soundtracks and testing out different backup games that the hard drive won't get fragmented.

It looks like transferring to my computer would take around 9 hours and then I would have to transfer it back which would take another 9 hours. Has anyone tried this to see if it works?

Yes, I posted a thread on my findings a while back about this.

There were notable changes.  You see, I was a halo 2 modder and I kept ftping back and forth .map files all the time.  After my defrag, I think I shaved about 10 seconds off the time it took for Halo2 to load into cache.

Also, I think XBMC booted a second or two faster.

I used the backup, format, and replace backup method.

Ive done this and seen a very small increase in performance.

Copy everything to your PC, format your XB HD. Copy everything back to your XB but put items then never get deleted, changed or updated back on first. This is prevent fragmentation in the future
