I just put it in my apps folder on drive F.  You can put it whereever you launch any xbe's.
T, what dash do you use?  If it's xbmc or ava, does the rss work?  I used to have problems launching linksbox (web browser) from evox, but if I launched it from UX, ava, or xbmc it worked fine.  Something with the network settings, I guess.  I would suggest starting there.  If you can get a dash able to connect, I'd bet you could launch it from there.
Now onto my question.  Am I doing something wrong or is there really only two halo 2 maps available on this thing?  The thing I read on the main page said you could get content for all kinds of games.  Is it just new and there's not much available or do you have to do something special to get it to work right.  Also, once the stuff is downloaded, what do I do with it?  It just saves it to a subfolder in mimesis, not the actual save folder.  The way it sounded when I read about it, I thought it was like a "for dummies" app and I wouldn't have to go through all the trouble of learning how to use the downloaded stuff.  If I'm doing it right and this is how it's supposed to work, I may as well keep getting mods the normal way.

Doesn't sound too promising.  I was hoping for a file dump in the game directory of whatever game you had.  Sounds just like an other way to download game hacks and implement them yourself...like before, i'll give it a try when I get home.

heres what i did to get it to work (although the map crashed on me YAY!  after i died though)

1.  Put in E:\Apps\ or F:\Apps\  or wherever just so you can launch the app.

2.  Make sure your xbox can connect to the internet, if its plugged into a router (like mine) thats fine.  if you can see the weather and RSS feeds in XBMC you're fine.

3.  Make sure you have the Halo 2 1.1 update.  not the newer one aparently.  if you dont have this, there are ways to get it.  I got mine from an installer since i dont have Live.  when you start Halo 2 it will display a number like 1.1 to tell you the version.  if you dont get this version # its the original.

4.  Launch Mimesis

5.  Choose the top option (update list or something).

6.  Pick a file (i'd pick one, when i picked both it crashed YAY!).

7.  hit B after its selected and it will download with a progress bar.

8.  go back to the main menu, and go to the second option (install).

9.  another progress bar and then the maps show up at the end of your list of maps in halo 2.

on a side note, the map i dl was just a modded map of one of the originals, not much changed, and since its not a map i originally liked (the large city one) i doubt ill be playing it.

not to beat up on the people who made this, the program is good (when it works), but the maps are pretty boring.  both just make the maps dark, and mess with the weapons a bit, like removing dual weilding and the sword on that levitating map (dont remember the name)  and making wierd colors for the big city map.

are there any real halo 2 mods in existance like the halo 1 mods that added the PC only maps and those other totally new maps not just skins of old maps or making them darker.  the only other one i saw was a square platform (oh yeah, thats a great concept i wish id thought of that.)  i've got a new one, how about a circular map OMFG WTF amazing.

again the program is good, but the maps are dissapointing.  I shouldn't complain since they're free, but really, whats the point?  I have a good idea, remake the original Halo Maps for Halo 2, maybe then Halo 2 will be half as good as the original.  halo 2 maps suck, i wish more people had copies of halo 1, all my friends lost theirs.  and i want my damn pistol damnit.

Directly connecting it to your modem didn't work because your ISP probably requires some sort of login information that your PC has and your xbox doesn't.  Run ipconfig from the comand line on the pc, and double check the xbox and pc have identical settings.

There is only two released right now.

If your dissapointed with those current maps, head over to the mimesis forums and vote for new content.
Each map needs X number of votes before it's released on mimesis.

My cable modem works in this way (your might work in a different way).

the modem is configured once, when the pc is connected straight to it and it is first turned on.  THen you sign in.  After that, you can use DHCP on your pc or xbox and there is no need to sign on.  This was the router gets the IP from the modem and sets up its own DHCP so it can distribute IPs to the devices connected to it.  You only need to login to the cable modem once.

If you can't connect to mimesis's server, maybe theres a way to dl the maps.  you then put them in a folder on mimesis and select install and mimesis transfers it to the Halo 2 folder in TDATA and signs it and does what it needs to do.  If you could get the maps another way (not sure if you can) then you could probably do this.

btw wassabi thanks for the info, i'll check it out.  hopefully they can figure out how to make real new maps.
