When Does News Qualify As News
« on: December 15, 2004, 05:35:00 PM »

(Yes im ranting)

I dont deny that x-s news is a powerful marketing and information tool and is often used as such. But when did admins start posting news that really has no news in it at all. If a team wishes to get on that news page they should have to come up with something new... who know maybe even something useful or innovative.
The latest '12 days of marketing' from xenium is the poorest news post I've ever seen. The jist of it was 'xenium has xenium OS and the other guys don't. You can run our os without dl'ing from the underground'.
1) we already know that xenium has xenium OS
2) Anyone who knows what they are talking about realizes that the xenium needs simular downloads from the same 'underground' source.
3) Nothing new was presented in this 'news'

X-S has provided hosting to thoes in the mod community that would otherwise have none. I do realize they gain no income from posting news such as this but I worry is this site turning into a ps2ownz marketing moneygrabbing machine. :( (no x-s arnt theives)

What advantage does posting every teams marketing jiberish have? Perhaps its to appear unbiased (you can't be biased if you post all the marketing) ?

IMO X-S needs to raise the bar on their news standards.  There is a comparison page for modchips (which I assume manufacterers can request a feature to be added to the list) Which outlines what each mod has and does not have.

To twist facts around to confuse the 'noobs' who dont know any better is wrong and unethical. Shame on Xodus and X-S for posting it.

If Xenium OS 2.0.2 isn't released during this I will be very annoyed, I also hope to see it have boost mode and a file manager. Two essentials of an Xbox OS imho.

This bit I found so funny!

or the many newbies out there this is a very important fact that needs to be highlighted. Let us paint it a little more clearly for you. Would you buy a BMW X3 with no engine?

Hehe I nearly fell of my chair on that, admins please edit all that the way they put X3 after BMX is wrong because they should be bloating about how good there product not how crap others are! X3 is a great product, also X3 has legal flashing software, so does every chip potentialy. I think the news poster for xodus should think before he types (no offence) but you just take it to far. I was a loyal customer and still am but this type of news puts me rite of.

We post all news the big modchip brands post.
Why? because it's the only way to keep the site unbiased. If we would start deciding what modchip news should be on the x-s news and what not you can be sure we'll get tons of complaints like "why are you posting x and not y ... how much did team z pay you to do that", etc.

The way we do it now is much more transparent. We quote all news the big modchip team post - without any 'personal' x-s opinions - ... that way visitors can make up their OWN mind about each modchip team with the actual news they post.
Some teams talk a lot, others keep quite - maybe both trying to reach another public.

Quoting modchip teams gives you the 'real face' of the team ... some will like style A others will like style B ... but this way your decision will atleast be based on how the team really is.

I hope this explains what you are asking.

X_S does the news just right IMO.Ive been using X_S along with xboxhacker.net since the XBOX came out.Now all I ever go to is X_S.I cant compain about anything these guys do.I think the site is run perfectly and I have seen no bias only enthusiasm for the XBOX.

I appreciate all the effort X_S puts into gathering and posting all the news they do.If I dont see it on X_S I would probably not know about it.Thanks to Xantium for doing such a good job with his site.

I don't try to be a jerk :)

Perhaps the ability to comment on news directly (alike ps2-scene.org / ps2newz.net ) would allow people who disagree with whats posted in the news to voice their opinion and hopefully teach some noobs along the way

Or then again its not my site :D do what you pleace

Thanks for the replies.  The things that got me a little adjitated was that the news was a twist of facts that serves to confuse rather than to inform, and the fact that there are 12 days of it.

You could comment on the news from the main page when X_S started. Then they got the forum going and no one ever complained...until now.

Why do you say that?  You seem to think that by "BMW X3" they were talking about a chip, when it is clearly a car, they have talked about that same car in other news posts.  Asking an admin on x-s to edit the news post on another site, doesnt make much sense, either.

You already have that ability.. by posting or adding to a discussion in a relevant forum. People do it all the time.  No need to add a feature to emulate what others sites are doing.

Xantium covered any other point I would have mentioned quite nicely.

I think we're all pretty irritated about Xodus making xbox-scene a gigantic advertising-place for Xodus. The newsposters must be stupid not seeing this. There is a big difference between deciding which NEWS that should be posted, and seeing obvious advertising-spam.

I salute Xecuter for not using cheap advertising-tricks and for, in their latest "non-relevant-to-everybody"-newspost added that xbox-scene should not post it.

Not hard to separate the professional chipmakers from the amateurish IMO...
