Instant Messenger?
« on: July 03, 2005, 12:08:00 AM »

I was just wondering if anyone has made some sort of instant messenger for the Xbox, like AIM or MSN or something ported to Xbox..

I'm looking for something more along the lines of a standalone app, not just running some IM client through Linux.

Currently, there are no dedicated instant messaging applications for Xbox.
Linux will have to do for now  beerchug.gif

Some friends and I are currently working on something similar, it still has a long way to be finished though and is still in development.  The current plans are for it to have the following features: FTP Client\Server, Instant Messaging (MSN and Yahoo, we may add some more when were done), Bittorrent Client, and a full fledged web browser with javascript, flash, video(wmv, avi, and mpeg), and audio(mp3, wma, wav, and midi) support.

And were missing a name for it, but we'll manage beerchug.gif . Be patient.

I will keep your proposals in mind, we might need some beta testers later on a bug searching operation. wink.gif

yes, fortunately we have had the time to work on it (vacations),
-the webbrowser is almost finished, and i say "almost" since some bugs need to be nailed out.
-the bittorent client is almost finished too, thanks to the azaerus source code. It has been a difficult time porting java to c++ though tongue.gif .
-the messenger app is still in early development though. we are trying to figure out a way of makin it easy to chat, since most of us dont have keyboards on our xboxes and using the built-in virtual keyboard is a pain in th arse when it comes to chat. Any ideas or suggestions e-mail me: [email protected].

The rest of the features are finished, although some bugs may still be hiding somewhere. when were finished with every feature, and after running a bug hunting test  on our xboxes, we will do a beta test program. This will come in about 3 or 4 more months though.

I will later be using other tread on this forum to post screenshots or vids of the app, so stay tuned...

Too lazy to email, but why not have something akin to a cell phone text messaging dealie...ie have a keypad where you hit the number that has the letter you want and as you keep typing more letters, it senses which words you are typing and changes the jumble of letters to that?  Sorry for the vague description, maybe someone else can explain it better.  Seems a bit difficult, but I'm sure there's code for it out there somewhere that you could 'borrow' :)

instead of messenger typing couldnt you create like an app that takes users to the same place an lets them use there headsets to speak to each other also it lets the user create an arena so you can just invite friends in similar to the kai engine but only for chat wold that word cos that would be kool nice work so far btw on web browser an BT client an stuff they sound awesome cant wait
