Is There A Cache Clearer?
« on: April 22, 2005, 03:28:00 PM »

Just wondering, it would be handy for Halo 2 mod players, something that would delete X:\ Y:\ Z:\ and E:\cache which could be launched from the dashboard to use just before going on live.
Thanks in advance.

I have no idea, but I mod Halo 1 and Halo 2, and I was going to post a topic on just this, but the e:/cache would not be something you would want to delete, those are the cache that over a while xbox live develops and edits for the best connections or xbl and other xbl settings. Unless you don't intend on going live, go for it. It can be quite risky deleting these cuz for some peoples connections it can cause quite the lag if it has to recreate these. Although the x, y, and z cache directories would be helpful to have an app out there to delete them. If I knew how the hell to make xbox apps I would be all over it, I know you need XDK and I do believe that that is illegal to get ahold of. If not or anyone knows where to ind such xbox app creating programs, please just continue posting.

it takes less than 30 secs to manually clear the drives using any file browser.

though if really needed i suppose someone could write an evox or unleashx script that formats the three cache drives.

I added this to my Ghost Recon 2 entry so it would delete the cache right everytime it loads for modding purposes:

Clear - X

Clear - Z

        <ItemAction="F:\GAMES\FPS\GHOST_RECON_2\default.xbe">GR2

</List>

Hopefully this will help. Now, I would like to know what I need to do to make it so GTA:VC will load after it deletes the gtafinal.cap file. Can someone help with that?

The process that comes to my mind would be:

an xbe that clears your cache then launches another xbe

this would enable you to set a quicklaunch button (like the x button) to launch that xbe then it would launch your dashboard, maybe even do it without displaying anything so it would be like a "hidden" action. and make it configurable through an xml file or something.
