Problems With The Envelopes
« on: November 10, 2004, 12:44:00 AM »

Hey Admins,

Thanks for all the hard work you've put into this great site.

Just one thing has been bugging several of us lately (I know at least one Admin has gotten a PM, but I figured I'd post it here first before PMing myself as well).

What's the deal with the envelope icons recently?  When I go back to the Newbie Chat after a post (and not just hitting the back button or some stupid thing like that), I see that people have replied to threads that I've posted to, but the little black dot doesn't appear anymore showing me that there's been a new post in that thread.

That makes it REALLY hard to manage and keep track of who we're helping, etc...

Is this an issue soon to be fixed.  I've noticed it only during the last couple of days.

Can you tell us something about this, please?

I removed that yesterday to lower the load on the server. Several sites linked to our forums yesterday causing +900users online.

It's active again now.

Thank you for your reply XanTium, although I have yet too see the changes.  I'll wait a bit.  Is this also why the forum search has been down, even during reeealy off hours?

What extactly happened?  The site is so slow and using it has become difficult...

And to Spency, I think you misread him. He said "Several sites linked to our forums yesterday causing +900users online."

I think you should re-read what I wrote.

The screenshot shows 1200+ users online at the same time, which is definately quite the load.  So I was asking him if he knew what sites were linking to these forums.

Cheers for making the thread Xombe, I wasnt too sure about making 1 at the time but it seems it was a good idea. I had PM'd HSDemonz about the problem and I got a reply from him however he wasnt aware of any changes.

However from this thread I see Xantium was in charge of it lol. And Yea still no black dotted envelopes back yet at 00:15am 11/11/04 UK time.

They were removed again, as you can see, there is still 1000+ users on the forums.  I wouldnt expect them back till were back around our 600 average wink.gif

Every site with a large chuck of modded Xbox users with Xbox Live are probably linking to us right now =O

Spency, I indeed misread what you wrote.  Sorry.

And I think Brahm's got it right.  I say we don't answer any stupid Halo 2 questions by brand new users on the Newbie board until this shit get's cleared up.

And again, thanks to Xantium and HSDEMONZ beerchug.gif , but still no dots. blink.gif

I know you guys are having issues, but as soon as we can get this place functional again, I have to repeat again that it's reallly hard to follow DECENT users whos' threads we're posting too... sad.gif

Screw the search, let the guests do their own googling.  Not to sound whiny, but can we pleeease get at least those black dots back as soon as it is feasible.

Edit: BTW, I suppose it would be bad form (re: piss to many people off) to make such a post (to the above effect) on the Noob board.... right.. unsure.gif

Shit, even then what the fuck do we do about the 400 "guests" currently on the board (that by the way, out number the members... dry.gif )

Was juss wondering about this issue the other day, juss lookin' ta see if anyone else has this problem, (I realize this thread is a month old, but instead of creating a new thread I figured I'd just reply to this one).  So I guess we're back up in tha numbers?  It's definately irritating.

Juss wondering if it really makes that much of a difference on tha servers to take those off... especially since it causes me to have to click my user name and search "All posts by this user" to find all tha posts I've replied to (causing extra search traffic on tha server).

Above-average number of users on -> Envelopes go off.

Average number of users on -> Envelopes go on.
