it's an older topic but i'll post anyway:
yes, it's possible to mount an .iso image from the HD. nkpatcher 9 and 10 have a virtual DVD feature that mounts an image from hardcoded directory on the HD.
yes that is correct, but there's a few points that need considering.
1.) nkpatcher will only run on a retail kernel, the majority of people here have modchips or tsop's, this luxury applies only to softmodders running nkpatcher with a patched kernel.
2.) i believe that the iso must also be made with nkpatcher, as the isos are mounted using a special xbe that is created for each iso, when the image is built.
3.) the virtual drive was specifically designed for use with programs/games, i.e default.xbes and subfolders. rmenhal said that he has managed to get dvd movies mounted, but even then, no programs actually play them, the best you could do is xbmc, which would then only play the individual vobs.
4.) the iso must be fatx, a dvd-video iso cannot be mounted.
so this solution is pretty much impossible. all one can do is put out a request to developers of dvdx2 or something and hope that the feature is implemented.
alternatively, if xbmc does play iso's, then you can just wait for dvd-menu support ot be implemented, which is a working progress. then in theory playing an iso should work and have the full features of a dvd.
