I don`t know how many times I have read a news topic and immediately jumped onto the forum to try and find more info/opinions only too have to wade through the crap to find a valid topic. How about scripting it so that when a new news item is created, a new forum topic is also created and linked to the news topic?

On some of my news posts or Reviews.. I include a discusion thread link for followup discussions.

It's something we do on occassion. However, we played with the idea of ....

a dedicated forum for news posts/discussion and found that it would be redundant as popular posts are are discussion in relevant forums.

The other idea we played with was making dedicated thread for each news post.. and we sent that up the flag pole and opted to burn that flag.

If you can't find a decent topic that relfects a current news post.. people are free to make one in a relevant forum.

(that's not to say down the road we won't enable such a feature.. only that for all the times it's popped up.. we've always opted to not do it.)

i brought this up about a year ago too, it sounds like a good idea, but there to many things that could go wrong, like that post would take priority over the forum.

what if we made a seperate forum for news alone, under the main fourm, just a News one. but then again we would be seperating it, and it might not be relavant enough, and people would get confused and just start a topic in the forum that the news is talking about. So theres really no good way to do it.

what if we just put a link to the forum that the news is talking about, so people can get more information about that news article and whatever else they need. Its just an idea.

I have to agree, so many times I just want to get on here and discuss a news topic but I can't seem to find it anywhere, having a link to the post would be ace

perhaps a backpage or inhouse news forum or somthing like that.
