X-pass How Do I Set This Up?
« on: October 22, 2004, 04:55:00 AM »

Theres nothing here that actually details how to set this app up. The nfo is crap and I don't understand it. Please can someone help me get this working - I want to have it setup so that woever boots the box, the password screen pops up - apparently according to the developer this is possible.

Running Evox.

What I don't understand is why to do with the default.xbe, If I put it in any game folder for example, it would overwrite the games default.xbe - Is that right? Surely they aint the same.

Anyway I dont wont this setup for games, just when the machine boots up.

PLEASE HELP.

if your current dash is c:\evoxdash.xbe:

1) rename c:\evoxdash.xbe to c:\evoxdashreal.xbe
2) have c:\DashPath.txt contain the text "c:\evoxdashreal.xbe" (without quotes)
3) have c:\Password.txt contain your PW.
4) put X-pass default.xbe in c:\evoxdash.xbe
5) put X-pass files in media folder in c:\media

WARNING: 100% untested theory. This MAY break your dashboard, have a recovery method ready!

fghjj - So let me just run through what you've done....

- Rename evoxdash.xbe - otherwise it would boot before the x-pass default.xbe??
- Tell dashpath.txt which xbe to boot - so in this case thats the renamed evoxdash.xbe
- Put x-pass default.xbe in c:\ alongside evoxdash.xbe(renamed) and then add the media folder.

Is that right??

If this f""ks up, how would I recover myself??? Could I just insert by evox slayer disk with an edited evox.ini that has my ftp settings and then I can get back in via ftp and fix the problem!!

PLEASE ANSWER!

Yep. Don't forget Password.txt. And have X-pass default.xbe renamed to evoxdash.xbe.

You can imagine the chain should look like this:
BIOS searches for evoxdash.xbe (this is X-pass but BIOS doesnt care) and runs it -->
X-pass reads the .txt and media files -->
if PW is correct it will run evoxdashreal.xbe

What do you normally use to recover when tinkering with the dash? smile.gif If you have a modchip or TSOP then you can use any disc you can normally boot (like slayer) and restore your normal evoxdash.xbe over FTP. In case you have a softmod make sure you have a 007 or MA savegame standing by.

No permanent damage can be done, but it's always better to think of the recovery before changing stuff. Preparation saves irritation wink.gif
