Xbox Playing Gamecube!?!?!?!
« on: June 14, 2004, 11:16:00 PM »

Hi,

Well to start this off Im not new to the xbox-scene webpage. We've been good friends over the past couple of years, but now im going to jump to the other side of the table and try to make a little something happen with xbox and gamecube.

The Xbox as we all know is a excellent new pc at a low price of $150
On the flip side gamecube owners (w/ network adapter & pso) can stream their gamecube games from the pc to the gamecube and play them in real time. Im sure you can see where this is going.

rotfl.gif Even further ... not to let the cat out of the bag - but there is now a ps2 hard drive capable of playing almost every game w/o your original disk (sitting on the shelf) in the drive)

But not to stray from the subject. I am a old school programmer looking to see if there is anyone interested in programming a similar program to cubesoft loader (only for example purposes) for the pc to the xbox for the purpose of streaming gamecube games to the gamecube directly from the xbox's internal (now-upgraded) hard drive.

Important - This project is ONLY private beta and has yet to be named so please do not ask for copies!!

In my modest opinion this should be a simple to medium difficulty project as there is already a program for the pc that provides the network functions, and I would be looking for any ideas / suggestions / comments on this as I and one other person are currectly working on this and would llove any input.

Thats very interesting. Im surprised that there aren't more people who are interested in playing these games.

The program has been built from scratch. Programs were used to detect the commands that the pc and gamecube were sharing and then our program has been structured around some of the same expamples. The simplicity in my mind of using the xbox instead of the pc is that I use different router settings and its a pain for me to change between them.

The program currently launchs, automatically sets all the correct network settings, and overall is much simplier then the pc version (In my opinion) although it lacks much of the overall ideas. (there is no way to backup your games as of right now just stream the information from the xbox to the gamecube.)

I have been having some of the same problems that the earlier pc to gamecube streaming programs were having. Slowing gettting through ways to speed up the connection. It is an extremely slow process, but enjoyable at the same time.

I was just interested to see if people were interested. I have recieved so much from the scene that i figured if there was interest we would have a stronger reason to push this program until it works. (share and share alike)

Anyway, I kept this thread in my folder so I'll be checking back - Posting new information as it surfaces. Thanks for the interest so far.

I've always thought it would be a great idea, the XBOX is always beside the Cube, it would be A LOT easier to do that, than to have to have a PC around all the time.

Thanks ScHlAuChi, and everyone else for your ideas and interest. I fully believe in making it as user friendly as possible and any little things that I didn't think of are greatly appricated. I hope to have something solid to show everyone here within the next few months i.e. a program that is fully operational and has very few bugs.  wink.gif

Here is a public request. If you have any information on the way the gamecube talks in relation to the network adapter, loading gc game streams, or protocols for the BBA please contact me, we are trying to complete this project and would like to make sure we are doing this as efficently as possible. wink.gif Hi cubesoft phoenix, good idea my friends!

Well start getting ready - this is already more then an idea its only time until the public knows it as a reality. OBVIOUSLY - we are not looking for anything in return except for your input and comments. beerchug.gif

Hmm, there are linux executables to do this so far i know, and you can run
linux on xbox, therefore its possible. I am doing something different and way
more complicated on my network.

I got a main server, where i ran my custom HTTP so i could launch a game via
HTTP (LinksBoks) for the GC, or use my PC to do it.  (This is actually working
and done, but hardlinked directories for some stuff)

Now as i run an xbox as linux server, i will most probably attempt to make my
HTTP server, tunnel via ssh or telnet to the xbox and login/start & kill the
services with the correct games.

I still think your idea is cool for ppl who want to stream from the xbox using an
XBE. You should check for a network traffic sniffer, and see how it communicates.
It has to request files and handshake so it works, so check that out smile.gif

Good Luck with your project!  beerchug.gif

I too saw cypher's post months ago when PC streaming started.  This is something I've waited for for forever.  As soon as it can be done by backing up games (I refuse to download/pirate) and it becomes public I'll buy my BBA and try it out.  (I'd gladly beta test if back-ups were possible).

I second the notion that this should be done without having the x-box connected to the tv.  However one simple answer for this is to use the Quicklaunch feature in Avalaunch.  An LED color option for this program like how the dashboards have the ability to change LED color would show when the program is loaded would definately aid this considerably.  That being said it'd haveto automatically set up all the settings you need and there'd have to be another way to select games than through the x-box, i'm not sure if this is possible.  Maybe it could load a "dashboard" onto the gamecube to select games from?  I doubt this would be possible and would surely be much harder work than working in the FATX system.

Thanks for turning a great idea into (soon enough) reality.  I already appreciate your contribution to the scene.

ha, I was pumped until I read the last post /\.  I didn't look at the dates of these posts.  Guess this project passed away because of too many complications or something.

...and Morien, that avatar wierds me out everytime I see it for some reason.

also i would have loved to have streamed gamecube games from the xbox. i hate it when projects suddenly die without anyone saying why, and people just stop posting one day.............
