Dead Xbox In My Closet
« on: September 28, 2005, 12:54:00 PM »

greetings, Im sorry if this isnt posted in the right place.

ok, So I got a dead xbox in my closet. Here's its story.

I got a cheap xbox with a slightly defective DVD-ROM drive, that has trouble reading some DVDs, (only a few DVDs & Movies were able to run)

So I tried to use an exploit (the one with Mechassault, UDE2, i think).

I was lucky being able to boot Mechassault in the first place, because the drive is so faulty, it ran once every 40 boots.

So, during the installation, something goes wrong, some files weren't copied to the HD. I reboot the xbox, and I get Error 21.

So, I think I get a Dead HD....

Can I just add a bigger HD to my working xbox and use my retail HD in my Broken one?

Or should I Ebay it or something?

I need professionnal help.

if the save game is still on the hd, you could try to put the game in the tray. turn off xbox and turn it back on the game might load and you could try to reinstall the exploit.... if you have your xbox eeprom  you could use xboxHDM to rebuild your HD

Unless you have the eeprom.bin file for the xbox, you are not going to be able to add a larger hard drive.  You will need a chip to fix the situation.  You could try booting the original exploitable game as noted above.  Or, if you want to sell it, let me know.

If you still have the save on your HD, why not just buy a new DVD drive, then load up the save, to gain FTP access, and manually revert it back to stock, then put on Krayzie's Ndure installer, and install that?

I'd hotswap a up-2-date exploit (thats free ;)), because an error 21 doesnt mean dead hd.

error 7 sure, but not 21.

Just unplug the dvd drive.. then instead of error 21 you will boot into error 12.. At this point, xbox will be unlocked.. then just hotswap and fix the C drive..no need for mod chips..

Hotswap the hard drive. There are tutorials all over this forum, if you need to know how.

Yes, essentially. You can then use XBoxHDM to ensure that, if nothing else, you retrieve your EEPROM. Once that's done, you can fix anything short of hardware failiure.

leave it rebooting over and over again all night, sooner or later it should boot.
