xman954, I see you followed-up really quickly re. Horscht's and my feedback; thanks.

Btw, maybe get the first post's link mended and contact RiceCake to see if it could also be on XGuides...

Is this a typo or what?

CODE
;;;---------------------------------------------------------------------------
;;;   tray OPEN dash, when key IS NOT patched back (must be a habibi signed xbe)
;;;                        MUST BE PARTITION 1 or 2
;;;
%define OPEN_PATH      '\Device\Harddisk0\Partition1\UDATA\4d530017\62d648ebf155\default.xbe'
;;;---------------------------------------------------------------------------

When key is not patched back, the xbe doesn't have to be signed in any way right? And all kernel patches as otherwise defined are still in effect?

Or am i missing the point to the als dash feature here, and it basicly does nothing more then boot another XBE without patching anything?

yes, no mods at all (shadowC, eeprom, lba48)
it so you can run the gamesave, PBL or a different NKpatcher setup

from what i have seen there is a lot of misunderstanding of how to use the tray state booting
if you are going to use it you should start off using
CODE

%define TRAY_BOOT
%define TRI_BOOT
;;;%define PATCH_BACK_MS_KEY

normally the open_path is your gamesave (dash)
CODE
%define OPEN_PATH      '\Device\Harddisk0\Partition1\UDATA\4d530017\62d648ebf155\default.xbe';MA gamesave
it used to get to the real C,  eeprom and FTP

now tri-boot is enabled becouse if you mess up the default dash and the gamesave
or there path settings in NKpatcher...
you will still be able to boot a habibi signed disk (use xbedump to sign the default.xbe on the CD-RW/DVD) to save your ass

OK, now you say i want somthing different then the gamesave dash, this is what you do.
1 set the open_path to
CODE
%define OPEN_PATH      '\Device\Harddisk0\Partition2\NKpatcher\alt_NKPatcher.xbe'
that is C:\NKPatcher\alt_nkpatcher.xbe (on the real C)

2 recompile a new version on NKPatcher with tray boot off
and the options you want for your alt_dash to have. (shadow, lba48, eeprom)
set it's dashboard_path to the location of the alt_dash
CODE
%define NKP_LED_COLOR          RED; or whatever you like
%define DASHBOARD_PATH   '\Device\Harddisk0\Partition1\dashboard\alt_dash\default.xbe';< you alt dash and location !
that is E:\dashboard\alt_dash\default.xbe

3 take the new compiled version and place in
C:\NKPatcher\alt_nkpatcher.xbe (on the real C)

4 once you have setup this up you will not have to do it again
you are free to mess with any dash in the alt_dash folder

so what you should have is:
C:\NKPatcher\nkpatcher.xbe < with tray booting, dashboard_path, open_path set to alt_nkpatcher
C:\NKPatcher\alt_nkpatcher.xbe < without tray booting, dashboard_path set to your alt_dash

You need to put the files on the REAL c drive, not the virtual one. You can disable the virtual C by loading up a gamsave exploit or by loading PBL.

QUOTE(mvorchard @ Sep 13 2005, 09:33 AM)
My only question is: I don't have KNpatcher currently installed on my XBox (clean Ndure PC installation - with XBMC as main dash); after putting those two files in a newly created folder C\NKPatcher, do I need to do something else???

i don't know what setup you have
but what ever the the file the fonts call to boot (C:\xodash\ernie.xtf)
is where you need to put everything there, then rename nkpatcher to match.
the NDURE 2.1 setup that i looked at has ernie calling C:\bios\dual.xbe
so in that case:

C:\bios\dual.xbe < would be NKPatcher with tray state(TS) booting
C:\bios\alt_nkpatcher.xbe would be the one without TS booting
make sure you edit all the path's in NKPatcher (with TS booting to match this setup
"%define OPEN_PATH      '\Device\Harddisk0\Partition2\bios\alt_NKPatcher.xbe' ")

OR you can hex edit ernie.xtf and change it's boot path to anything you want
to make the setup a little cleaner
(it does not need to be signed after you edit it)

for use with Ndure pc setups, you can configure like this:

CODE
;;; tray dual/tri-boot enable
%define TRAY_BOOT

;;; tri-boot enable < dual is default, with tray_boot enabled
%define TRI_BOOT

;;; tray open > patch back MS key or not, then run tray open dash
%define PATCH_BACK_MS_KEY

;;;---------------------------------------------------------------------------
;;;   Dashboard path's for tray OPEN dash when using dual/tri-boot
;;;---------------------------------------------------------------------------
;;;   tray OPEN dash, when key IS patched back (must be a MS signed xbe)
;;;                        MUST BE PARTITION 1 or 2
;;;
%define PB_OPEN_PATH   '\Device\Harddisk0\Partition2\msxboxdash.xbe'
;;;---------------------------------------------------------------------------
;;;   tray OPEN dash, when key IS NOT patched back (must be a habibi signed xbe)
;;;                        MUST BE PARTITION 1 or 2
;;;
%define OPEN_PATH      '\Device\Harddisk0\Partition2\bios\bios.xbe'
;;;---------------------------------------------------------------------------
;;;   Tray closed Dashboard path, NKP will boot  2=C 1=E 6=F 7=G
;;;---------------------------------------------------------------------------
;;;
%define DASHBOARD_PATH '\Device\Harddisk0\Partition1\dash\default.xbe'
;;;---------------------------------------------------------------------------

then you can use any fancy led, rgb, pregressive patch.. this will boot your dashboard in E:\dash and boot msdash retail with tray open. REname it to dual.xbe and sign "-habibi"..

I will add it soon with the next release due very soon..

@ Kingroach
you need to remove (comment out)
CODE
%define TRI_BOOT

see here
http://forums.xbox-s...dpost&p=2917655

and you forgot about being able to set the fan speed  smile.gif
the make/compile file will sign it for you
