Known Issue With Dvd2xbox 5.0?
« on: October 29, 2003, 07:01:00 PM »

Yeah, I just got dvd2xbox 0.5.0 and I have to put in the game, then power down the system then after I reboot and load dvd2xbox, it shows the games full size. I have to do this everytime I want a new game. I hope it gets fixed soon.

the media detection didn't change much in the last releases so it won't make any differents trying 0.4.9 (0.5.0 only fixes a typo which didn't show the g drive). However the detection runs smooth for the most of the user and I dunno why only 1 few see a 11mb video. In regard to the detection function this would mean it couldn't read d:\default.xbe. It would be the best that you compare your systems to see what the "11mb  video" boxes have in common.
And for the developer: dvd2xbox goes sourceforge ! Check it out and send me patches  biggrin.gif

Good I'm not the only one then.

so no probs nezff?  Guess I'll just try that version instead.

yeah, the only probs i have ever had with dvd2xbox was the 046 release and wiso fixed that one because it had a problems with failed copys.  I used 045 forever and never any probs.  I think 045 was one of the best one released as far as bugs.  It does the same thing any og the newer ones do as far as copying games in my opinion.  Right now I use 049 but have not really used it yet.  048 worked fine though. no failed copys or not reconizing the game or nothing.  no problems

keep up the good work WISO smile.gif

@andyd:
Could you post some more infos about  SSX3 ? What does the root dir contain ? Is there a Video_ts folder ?
The problem is that someone also complains  about the 11Mb issue with Project Gotham Racing. I bought the game only for testing but it works flawless. To give you a view how easy the detection works see the following lines:
                               if (_access("D:\default.xbe",00)!=-1)
            {
               type = GAME;
               dvdsize = p_help->getusedDSul("D:\");

               wsprintfW(temp,L"DVD: XBOX Software %d MB",(int)dvdsize);
            } else if(_access("D:\VIDEO_TS",00)!=-1)
            {
               type = DVD;
               dvd = DVDOpen("\Device\Cdrom0");
               dvdsize = p_help->getusedDSul("D:\");
               DVDClose(dvd);
               wsprintfW(temp,L"DVD: Video %d MB",(int)dvdsize);
            } else if ....

WiSo, thanks for releasing the code! I'd certainly like to have a look it at and hopefully add something as time allows!

Great ! Don't hesitate to ask if there 're any questions. The code isn't very clean yet.

@Wiso, maybe you knew it already, but if you put an xbox-game in your pc it'll start video-files saying something about it's an xboxgame. And if I remember correctly the files the pc recognizes is only 11mb, so it's definitly those files it copies. Why? Well maybe it's got with strange samsung-drives being able of reading all of it and recognizes the pc-made-video-files first, and therefore needs tweaking from you to definitly recognize the game-part. This is a BIG guess from me on the samsung drives btw. Anyway what drives do you guys having this issue have?

@sil247, I have only used 46 and newer, but I use pc drive myself and i can't copy stuffs either. Would be great so i can insert *avi's

hi guys,
WiSo, you bought project gotham just for me?  Thanks dude! smile.gif
i had those 11 mb video problems as well with virtually every disk - until i stumbled across the holy grail.  which is to load evox without a disk in, then slap a disk in, wait until the drive finishes initializing (takes mine about 20 seconds), then when i see "game" i'm good to go - i load dvd2xbox and i'm in bliss - has worked PERFECTLY every time followign that format.  i have not archived 2 dvds in a row, so i don't know if after the first, i could put in a second and have it work - to be honest, and to be safe, after the first dvd pops out, i'd reboot and do it again (only kills 30 seconds, i can spare that smile.gif
my system:  1.0 box, maxtor 120 gig drive, xbit, crappy stock thomson drive, and i'm presently using 4977 bios - i don't know if there'd be a difference with M7, but i switched to 4977 specifically for dvd2xbox.  oh, i'm running 4.9 - i don't use a g drive, so i'm not worried about the typo, but i'll switch to .51 or whatever if i see a change.
so the whole key is to let your system initialize and see that it's a game dvd.  otherwise, i get those horrible 11 meg video file messages like everyone else.
and if dvd2xbox sees it as a video image, the rest of the system will too - once dvd2xbox said it was a video, so did evox, and so did xboxplorer.
WiSo, if you need more info lemme know and i'll try to copy it or save a screen image or whatever.  Oh, and please keep up the great work smile.gif

Can someone verify if the 11mb issue was also in versions prior 0.4.8 ?
The newest iosupport source contains some partition checking which may be buggy
(I read it in the XBMC forum). If it works prior 0.4.8 I could disable it in the next release.

@Wiso. I use a pc-dvd-drive when I'm about to watch divx with xbmp, because I have a crappy Thomson. But if I use the pc-dvd-drive(which is seldom) and try to transfer a .avi or whatever it always says that it couldn't copy "insert name here".avi. So what that means is that it at least recognizes the files on the drive, but it fails to copy them. Sil247 said that it used to work on versions before 46, so I assume you made some heavy changes to 46 since almost nothing worked on that version.

@gronne: I changed in fact a lot from 0.4.5 to 0.4.6 but the copy is only threaded now (to display the progress bar).  0.4.6 contains also a typo (double slash) which was exactly the problem you describe. In later versions only the iso9660 sources changes the udf copy mode is still the same.
It seems to be that I should try to disable the partition checking and see if this makes any differents. Curious is that I don't have problems with. Maybe it's due to my good samsung  biggrin.gif

WiSo, i'm hesitant for you to make changes (then again, my pristine 4.9 will continue to work in case you really do a job!) - i don't know how the media info is passed along - but at least with 4.9 and i believe 4.8, if you didn't let the dash find the media was a game, then dvd2xbox took the liberties of deciding, and most of the time it was an 11 mb video file despite the media - which then got passed along to evox and the rest of the system - so it seems to me some value for the media was improperly set during initialization of the drive in dvd2xbox, which then got passed along to evox and the other apps that rely on that value.
for whatever it's worth, i've tried 4.9 with the latest releases and it has been working flawlessly, as long as i let the disks initiliaze in the drive BEFORE loading dvd2xbox.
if there are any tests or patterns you would like me to try, i'd be happy to smile.gif

Grab the newest sources from CVS. I did some changes you shouldn't miss.
I would start in d2xdrivestatus.*. This is the main entry for the media detection.
Somewhere I use the Remount() function from the iosupport.* library which itselfs uses the PartitionExists(szDevice) function. Comment it out and see what happens. I dunno if this will help but it's worth a try.
I think it must have be something to do with the remount because the other code is straight forward.
Thanks,
WiSo
