Not to jump down your throat dude, but a HL1 port isn't out yet, don't you think porting a foreign engine to a almost totally unrelated game is asking a bit much?  Not to mention, most of the devs agree that doing anything with HL2 is pretty low.  I even feel a bit dirty working with HL1 since the source was ill-gotten.

I was just passing on a thought. Frankly two people working separately on their own ports of Half Life is rather unproductive, don't you think? I don't want to discourage anybody here... you do know who I am, right?  wink.gif

My MAIN point was that any port of Half-Life should include, at the least, the diffs from the original leaked source code, if not the actual complete code used in the port. Too many projects are dead and will never be updated because the code isn't out there. It would be nice if the project still has wings to bring OTHER projects into fruition, such as a Quake2 version built on the new technology (which would fall under the same rationale as HL1 to be ported). I bring that up here, because it's related to the game engine (which is essentially what you are porting). To be honest, the HL storyline is far more interesting - in fact, before I would expect to see a Q2 port using the HL2 engine, I'd expect to see HL1-X set up to accept Opposing Force and Blue Shift data as well, for a complete trilogy in one package (I own all of them, a couple times over, as I do all of the Quake games).

I look forward to seeing a good HL1 port. If I had time, I would have already been looking into it myself. Too many cool projects, not enough Xbox developers!!

Sounds good...! About the Quake 2 with HL Tech, check out my other topic... Its about a new q2 with VERY improved graphics... But download it and try it.. Screenshots cant show how impressive it is with ALL features turned on..

ben.. Are you saying, more people are working on seperate ports of HL-X´?
What about getting these people together, and cooperate? We would get a much better port, and it would be faster done...!

I was just commenting on sleep_21 and da_frog's efforts. I hope they work together on this, that would be far more productive.

I think they mean the half life 1 source was in the half life 2 source and they are removing the half life 2 part from it  biggrin.gif

Actually, it's the Half-Life 2 code running the Half-Life 1 "stuff" - the updated FPS engine is somewhat compatable, as long as the old data files are recompiled (apparently that was done by the leaker)

If it is the Half-Life 2 code running it then how exactly were the porters planning to remove all the HL2 code? :/

Well, they remove the HL2-specific code, modify the remaining code to display "HL1" type stuff (menus and such), but mostly I think it's about removing the data files associated with HL2 and changing references to the HL data files.

I haven't tried it out yet, but the "Half-Life 2 - Half Life/Condition Zero" leak basically plays Half Life "1" as a mod.

Hmm, can't say I agree with this port, if anything ever comes of it, that is.

Why would that be? Half Life "1" will never come out for the Xbox. This will not include elements of HL2, at all.

It's using Valve's source which they have not chosen to release which is their choice. If they had offered the HL1 source up then fine but they didn't.

Anyway, since no one who is apparently working on this port has posted here, it doesn't seem very likely atm.
