Halflife 1/2 Port ?

QUOTE (Chicken Scratch Boy @ Oct 5 2003, 06:06 AM)
a keygen, no way, not unless they are already making hl2 discs!
cant they just redo the serial system?
but unless they really work on it, a patch would be way easy to make
but a real hl1 keygen, sure...
i think that the hl1 source is great,
but hl2, wtf?!
thats just lame
i think valve may have been planning on releasing the hl1 source after hl2 hits shelves anyway...
think of it this way: you still need the a copy game to run it (on any platform) but it can be an illegit one  sad.gif
any way, a hl1 (or 2!) port would be cool seeing as the hl2 xbox version may not be moddable or onlin play with pc players (same with cs)

Well, sure they can redo the serial system, but how long wouldn't that take? Atleast 1 week

The Half-Life2s anti-cheating system, have been compromiced so we will see more cheats and stuff. To redo the whole anti-cheat system can take month, bouth server side and client side anti-cheat need to be partly or completly redone, I guess.

(This part about the source-code is partly guesses and reflections on thing i'm not sure about, take it with a shuffel of salt, as we say in sweden.)
I haven't seen the source-code and never will, but I guess from what I have heard that's it's possible to compile stuff. Now how will Valve do?. If it's possible to compile the source code, the only thing that's missing is the data files, i.e. graphics, music, textures e.tc. Those stuff will be avalible when the game has been released. Now, i guess Valve don't what that a shitty warez group compile the source and then adds the original data such as graphics e.tc.

And if that's possible this could be used to substain serious damage to the computer it's running from. Let me draw a scenario, this hax0r warez group releases it's own iso game on serveral warez-ftp:s and stuff, but with there own compiled source-kernal, and the original data. (If this is possible i don't know, but if it will.)

People download the iso from ftp:s and think - Yeah cool just like I did with the original Half-Life I will save some bucks on downloading it. And then you run the game and it maybe works fine with the included key-generator. You logon to a game server on the internet and start playing.

Your firewall program, asks if you want to allow this game to be reciving data from another host. - Well, yes ofcouse it's just a game it's needed to play online. But the thing is that the soruce code has been  compromised and could contain the worlds biggest trojan horse, and you wouldn't know about it.

So will Valve have to make some changes on the data structure and/or packing to make this kinda expliot not possible. If that's the case you can atleast add a 2-5 weeks on the development plan.

So to sum this up, we can be looking at everything from 2 weeks - 2 to 3 month extra development time, If not more, If the hax0r's or what the lame people want to call them self, they don't wanna be anywhere near me. I wouldn't kill them, no dead is a relef, life is hell. I would just my secret Ninja powers on them.  ph34r.gif  ph34r.gif

I'm willing to bet that people are lying when they say they've played it.  There is absolutely no media along with the stolen material.  In other words, you can't even run the menus, etc.  I've heard people say as much as "we've gotten a LAN game going"... just posers trying to sound cool.  You can't play it. (unless you stole the media and data files, as well)

they have got a menu working,(not the real menu atleast i dont think) and they have jsut been using hl1 textures and using worldcraft(hammer) to make hl2 maps nothing amazing very basic but you can sorta get an idea for the physics. and they have compiiled version of all this which dont work really good at all but they are working on it...thats about all ive picked up on this ive been messing with the compiled, it kinda fun to mess with it jsut gets me even more excited for the real relase, well thats all ive picked up on everything and im almost definate its all right.

well it wouldn't be that hard, i guess you'd just need to know what the hell you are doing...
and i guess you'd need to make the menus and stuff directx... as well as everything else...

A HL1 port to the xbox I would be pleased to contribute to, as the game will soon be depracated (imo) ...

I would however have nothing to do with a HL2 port from the stolen source... in fact, I would actively try to disrupt it...

Maybe add some Xlink functionality in too?

I am with you. To steal Five years of work is wrong.
I must say that it would be nice to see them delay it to 2004.
Hopefully this could discourage this activity in the future (good luck, huh?) or even allow them time to make some new code that will not work with hacked versions online. Cheaters.
