Tutorial: Installing a UXE/EEE Switch with Krayzie’s Autoinstaller

WARNING: Neither Krayzie or myself are responsible if you screw up your xbox doing this; this tutorial is intended for more advanced users, and should only be used if you have intentions to use Xbox Live.  Otherwise, UXE alone will suit you just fine.

Tools needed:

Krayzie_EEE_installer.rar (search around, you’ll find it, and don’t ask me or krayzie where)
Winrar or other archive utility
FTP Client (should already have, I recommend SmartFTP)
Any retail, pressed audio CD
5960 M$ Dash (if you don’t have this, download Slayer’s and apply it, search!)
PBL of some sort (Metoo, Lite, original, doesn’t really matter)
Update.xbe from dash 4920 (should already have this if you have UXE or UDE 1/2 installed, which is required.  Keep it.)
A way of recovery, like a bootable game and gamesave (007 and ltools, or something)

Knowledge needed:

A reason to do this (IE, gain access to xbox live)
Xbox’s Kernel, and/or your xbox’s region
Decide whether you want to perform the UEEE or SCEEE, explained in the readme.  I won’t be explaining the SCEEE in this tutorial, simply because I don’t own Splinter Cell, but I plan on adding it to this post later on.

The differences:

QUOTE
UEEE:
+works on all regions
+is faster
-no ability to access XBOX! Live console (used for Xbox live settings/signups etc.)

SCEEE:
+full XBOX! Live console access
-takes some extra steps to trigger
-only works on region 1(USA/Canada) and region4 (elsewhere), No region 2 (NTSC-J)

Basic understanding of xbox exploits
READ THE README, COMPLETELY.  Don’t just rely on this tutorial.

The Tutorial

Before I begin, here’s another quote from the readme.  I’ll explain as much of this as possible, but this is how your xbox needs to be EXACTLY before you attempt to install this.  No discrepancies.  Trust me, it will NOT work otherwise.

QUOTE
-The 5960 retail dashboard must be installed on the C directory (this has to be the actual C if a shadow C is set)
-The xboxdash.xbe of the 5960 dash must be named as xboxdash.bak (the current UDE/UXE xboxdash.xbe should be left untouched)
-The retail fonts should be located in a folder named f0nts (note the zero)
-The hacked fonts should be in a folder called fonts (it will not work on C: root)
-The RETAIL kernel version should be known for the UEEE installation. If you don't know it you could try the generic option in the installation menu but there is a chance it will not work.
-For the SCEEE to work there must be NO game saves left of splinter cell. (Check your E:\UDATA folder for a 5553000c and
21585554 directory. When present delete them. Note that they might contain the Splinter Cell game save exploit.
If that is your only recovery way you might not want to delete them.)
-You should have an easy way to recover. I will not take blame for anything that might go wrong.

Let’s break that down a bit.  The instructions are slightly different for PBL and NKPatcher, so note my items in gigantic red letters.  Make SURE you are following the correct one for your setup.

QUOTE
-The 5960 retail dashboard must be installed on the C directory (this has to be the actual C if a shadow C is set)

Enable your PBL.  Place it in E:\Apps\PBLMetoo or something along those lines, and run the .xbe according to your dash.  Here’s mine, shown in XBMC.  REMEMBER, you must do this every time you reboot your xbox while installing this package.

Your screen will go blank for a second, and PBL will load and temporarily replace NKPatcher.  This allows for the real C to show, which is vital to this tutorial.  Connect to your xbox through the FTP client, and backup your current C drive to your PC. Do this now.  No exceptions.  Just do it.  If you don’t know how to do that, it probably wouldn’t be wise to attempt this tutorial.

Do NOT Have 5960 dash currently installed

If you don’t have the 5960 dash, delete all files and folders in the C drive except for fonts (the hacked fonts for UXE), xboxdash.xbe (update.xbe from dash 4920.  If you have your dashboard in C as evoxdash.xbe, it’d be wise to put it on E and change the bootpath, which you’ll have to search to find out how to do.  I’m not entirely sure this will work if you have evoxdash.xbe on C and reconfigure it to E.  If your hacked font(s) aren’t in the “fonts” folder and are in the root of C (mine were), create a “fonts” folder and move it/them there.  Your exploit will work just fine.

On your PC, prepare your dash from Slayer’s by renaming the 5960 xboxdash.xbe to xboxdash.bak (this step is very important).  Check in the fonts folder for Xbox.xtf and Xbox Book.xtf, and then delete Xbox.xtf and Xbox Book.xtf in the root of the C folder.  Rename the “fonts” folder to f0nts (just like before, remember?).  You should end up with this:

Now, copy those files into C on your xbox.  You shouldn’t get any overwriting errors, so if you do, trace your steps and figure out where you went wrong.

If you DO have Dash 5960 already:

Just make sure that your real M$ dash file is renamed to xboxdash.bak, and you should be good to go.  Make sure you backed up your C, though.

When you’re done, everything should look like this:

UEEE Installation

Now’s where the fun begins.  Go to your extracted Krayzie_EEE_installer folder (should already be extracted, because you read the readme, RIGHT?)  Copy the EEEinstaller folder to E:\Apps on your xbox.  Do not place it anywhere else; that’s the only location it will function.  Wait until the files have finished copying, and reboot your xbox.  REMEMBER: When the xbox turns back on, you MUST enable PBL again.  Do this every time you reboot your xbox; I can’t stress it enough.  This is why there are two separate tutorials for NKPatcher and PBL.

I’ll show this in Evox, since that’s the most popular dash, it seems.  Navigate to your Apps folder in whatever dash you have, and run “EEE Installer/Uninstaller.”

Ignore EEE Switcher on this screenshot, we’ll get back to that later biggrin.gif

UnleashX should load.  Here’s what you should see at this point.

Now it’s time to make your choice.  Review the options above, and, when you’ve made your choice, choose with the A button.  Remember:  This tutorial only explains UEEE, so you’re on your own from here on out until I finish the tutorial for SCEEE.  I personally use UEEE, but it’s your own decision.

Pick your kernel.  I’m choosing 3944, because that’s my xbox’s kernel.

This will be the next screen to pop up.  If you have read the readme, and are sure your setup is correct, press yes.  You should see some file progress, and then your xbox will reboot.  If you get an error screen, recover with your recovery method and try to figure out where you went wrong.

Did nothing happen?  Doesn’t look like it, does it?  Well, you’re in fact done.  The UEEE is now installed.  The next part will show you how to make use of it.

Using the Switcher

IF YOU’RE USING NKPATCHER, BE SURE TO RUN PBL FIRST.

Go to your Apps menu again, and look for EEE Switcher.  Run it.

(IMG:http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v407/JonoB/switcher.jpg)

UnleashX will again load, this time a little differently.  If you’d like to deactivate your current exploit, UXE or UDE and revert to UEEE to play on Xbox Live, press A on Deactivate Exploit, as shown here.

(IMG:http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v407/JonoB/deactivate.jpg)

Another pop up will appear, and, if you’re ready to switch, press Yes.  Seemingly nothing will happen, but your xbox will reboot, hopefully to the M$ Dash.  If not, check to see if you made any errors, connect to FTP and fix them, and try again.

That’s it!  You’ve successfully enabled the UEEE.  You can’t create a new Live account or edit your settings in the Live part of the dash, but you can freely access Xbox Live through games.

Returning to UXE/UDE

Now’s when you need that music CD.  Pop it in, and copy any track to your xbox.  It really doesn’t matter what the soundtrack or song is called, just copy it.  Do not overwrite the soundtrack that is already there, if there is one.

Take out the CD, and navigate back to the “start menu,” if you will, of the dash.  Go to Music, and arrow down.  You should have AUDIO CD (I know, there isn’t one in the drive) and the soundtrack you just copied.

(IMG:http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v407/JonoB/soundtrack1.jpg)

Press A, Down, Right, Right, A, A.  You should end up at the Edit screen for the name of the soundtrack.  Name it <<Eggsßox>> , including these symbols << >>.  A note from the readme:

(the <<>> are under symbols and the ß is under accents. Also note the capital E)

Arrow to Done, and before you press A, verify that it looks like this:

(IMG:http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v407/JonoB/eggsbox.jpg)

If so, press A, and watch what happens.  The M$ logo will come up for a second, and UnleashX will be back again.

To reactivate UXE/UDE, simply arrow down to Activate Exploit and press Yes on the popup, and you’ll be back to modded state.

Thanks to Krayzie for this awesome app, and everyone involved in all of the programs I’ve used here.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial, and expect the SCEEE tutorial sometime in the near future.  Feel free to point out any discrepancies, and I'll do my best to get them corrected.  Let me know if you like this tutorial... my ltools one was enjoyed, so I hope this one is as well.

Until then, happy modding!

Would it be possible to put Krayzie's installers (UXE,UEEE) on "the usual place"??
There are so many people that need the installers...

Some clarifications:

The EEE isn't an exploit for itself. It's just a way to load files that can be exploited later on.
The With the UEEE an exploitable version of the xonline dash is loaded and with the SCEEE a partial game+exploited save is loaded.
It is NOT required to own the game to use the SCEEE and the effects are almost similar to the UEEE.
I personally like the SCEEE far more than the UEEE since it will grant you full live dashboard acces in contrary to the UEEE.

Also the tut mentiones running pbl prior to the switching. This is not nescesarry since the installer has a built in pbl switching off any shadow partitions. So it is not nescesarry to run pbl prior to installing/uninstalling or switching. It is however usefull to check if the proper files are in place like the tut nicely describes.

Another note is that if you used my UXE installer the Csetup would be allready right except that you need to check if you have a 5960 dash installed.

Ah, very good krayzie.  Thanks for clearing that up.  Very nice about the PBL, I didn't realize that.  I'd edit if I could, you know how it is.

When I go to copy the music CD, it says that I have 100 soundtracks already.
Any Ideas?

No idea.  Perhaps do you have an old audio exploit installed, or a corrupted ST.DB?

Is he saying he was trying to use the autoinstaller for UEEE from his memory card?  That obviously won't work either, Muerte.
