Doomx Woes
« on: August 19, 2003, 04:31:00 AM »

Recently upgraded my Xbox to a 1.2 with X2.2 Lite (see specs below)

Copied files over inc DoomX (from xbins)
Added doom.wad (as I did before)

When I choose it from the menu it just goes black.

All other homebrews work

Any ideas?

I'd say it's not working.

Well, you don't give much to go by.

I don't think there's a problem with Doomx on "newer" Xboxes, so your issue must be a problem with incomplete files, right?

OKay - here's more ...

Got 2 Xboxs
- box 1 is 1.0 with an Xecuter Lite (the old type with 3 jumpers)
- box 2 is 1.2 with an Xecuter 2.2 Lite

Both running X2_4977 BIOS and EvoX 1.8.3782 with IGR off

DoomX runs perfect on box 1

If I FTP f:emusDoomX from box 1 to PC then put it in f:homebrewDoomX on box 2 it doesn't work

I hear sounds - but have no picture what-so-ever

ALL files have copied over

...

I'd also like to add if I get the latest version from xbins with the default WAD file it works on box 1 but not 2

Hmmm... sounds like the problem I have with the older Tony Hawk game running on my 1.0 Xbox. It was related to the EEPROM video settings.

Have you ever used an HDTV cable on your 1.1 Xbox?

Obviously, the game is running. There are previous cases of some games, supporting HDTV, that fail to initialize video properly (my suspicion was that it was initializing to an HDTV/component video setting by mistake).

Both Xboxs use the same TV and standard cable.

Hmmmmmmn, here's me thinking, could it be summin to do with the PAL/PAL60 WIDE/NORMAL setting on the original M$ dash??

Hmmmn

Your not missing anything, the weapons code is unfinished, there is no DeHackED support, no BOOM support, and finally, no MOD support.

Personally, I'd find a copy of Linux for the XBOX, and run DOOM Legacy or ZDOOM (if you can get the damn sound to work) in software mode on there, you'll be MUCH happier, well except for the fact that none of the guys doing XBOX Linux have configured the Joypad to work decently in 3D games, though they are sooooo close.

Ya, sux too. Your port has a Weapon select bug, and Black Aura's port for the Dreamcast can't save half the time, then of course Bero's DC port of PrBOOM does not have joypad support which would be no biggy, if using the mouse did not slow down the game. No matter what, my favorite FPS of all time never seems to make it to a console correctly.

EDIT "HEY, speaking of PrBOOM...

...that uses the SDL lib!!!"
