i did notice thought that it also sets a flag for the dash to bring up the clock setup screen like it does when you leave it unpluged for a while. the time remains set but the clock still shows up

i'm also pretty sure that xmtaxbox.xbe is contained in default.xbe and is extracted to the Z: partition later in boot

I highly suspect this file is retrieved from M$ servers to the XBOX’s HDD by the bootstrap default.xbe on the tool disk.  This would allow them to update XMTAXBOX.XBE without requiring re-pressing of the tool disk, and explains why XMTAXBOX.XBE ends up on the cache ‘X’ drive.

I know it may be a crazy idea... but who's to say that it's not on a memory card, and copied by the disk to the X drive, then the disk and the memory card are removed for the next one? huh.gif

well, I (dont take me for the gospel) believe it is their server ip address. I think it does DHCP, and all the downloads to the xboxes. is the dash on this disk? if not it may be similar to norton ghost's ability to "send" a hdd image, and install it,(this disk would be similar to the norton ghost boot disk). also... IIRC... 192.192.64.225 as an ip means, send to all clients on 192.192.64.XXX, which could indicate a server.

This might be nothing but a rumor, but it came from someone I worked with and given the occupation, it might be ture. EBgames apperently has a facility in Redondo Beach, CA, that they use to take in the preplayed games that they will sell on the corperate website. Now where this applies to here is that they also apererntly do their refurbishment on the consoles that they are brought in under authority of MS.
The staff on this site are apperently just to check the quality of what is beign brought back (game, console, ect) and as he said "They put a disc in, kills the xbox and it flys back to life. No opening, no nothing".
Later on when word of the savegame/rental wipe disc came out both of us checked into it and ended up getting one from blockbuster (we had friends in low places). When we ran the disc to see what it did, he said that he thought it was a newer disc because what he saw was just a single green colored screen with some text.
If this is the same thing he saw, the thing he said he was most pulled about was that they had no controllers pluged in but a white cable in port 4 of the two machines he saw fixed. This cable went into somekind box at the stations.

Im going to make a phone call in a few hours and see if i can get some more info. I moved to Australia about 6 months ago so its not like I can just get ahold of people in the states that easily.
Hopefully this is on topic and we can find out some info from this.

I've disassembled the default.xbe, and investigated the tests that lead up to the error message "BL: LAN Address is not correct" being output.

maybe the xbox was trying to look for a TFTP server located locally to download the firmware or boot files or maybe a new eeprom serial?

Alright, I KNOW how much people hate it when people DIG up old threads, but this one HAS to be dug up. SORRY.

I managed to acquire one of these rare discs - so rare, that it is one of the first ones, dated "September 2001", followed by "Version .01", and "Media Set X08 50721"

When I attempted using it on a soft-modded box with nkpatcher, all i got was an ORANGE screen... Yes, I let it go for more than 5 minutes, and no, upon reboot, did it alter anything...

I suppose that if I had a debug bios loaded, perhaps it would do something... but I didn't want to kill the xbox, seeing as I do not have a working modchip. (As far as I know... I lent my X2.3 to a friend, who ended up killing his box, so I don't know if the chip is still ok).

The default.xbe on the dvd is only 143KB... very small.

The xbox-linux team managed to create a wiki document on it, but I cannot find it at the moment.

Seeing as this is a "Version 0.1" disc, and the OP's disc was a version 3.0, I wonder what has changed...

I've tried dumping the dvd in a number of different ways. What is interesting is that it contains a looping DVD video of Halo... with certain things that never made it into the original Halo... The DVD video files were dated April 2001.

I don't know what the legality of posting a re-compressed version of the video would be, so I won't do that until I get an OK, or something from the community.
