It works fine with a normal install... about 250MB or something. And if you want it even smaller, you can delete most of the models.

Personally I didn't even do an install, I just copied everything out of the data directory on the CD and that did the job.

QUOTE (fearyaks @ Aug 19 2003, 08:07 PM)
This might be a stupid question but I I'm getting used to asking them.
I assume from the post above that if you do a full install you don't need the CD right?  So if I can find my old copy of Quake II, I do a full install on my PC, copy over the quake2x files, and then FTP the whole lot onto my Xbox... is this correct?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, that would work. But a normal install, in place of the full install, also works and takes up less space. And no, you won't need the CD to run the game if you do a normal install.

I have been trying to get this game going for hours and all I get is a blue screen.  blink.gif

The sound works and the game is running but without video.

I can exit the game and get Evox back no problem.

I have tried multiple combinations of files. Changed the config.cfg video setting.

I have even tried installing just the way it describes in the readme.
Copied every thing from a full install into the Xbox, and then copied the extracted zip file using folder names, over writing the install where necessary. Same result game works without video!

I am using the Beta 3 version.

There is one thing in the readme that I wasn't sure about were it talks about using one of the two .xbe's

"Rename default_devkit.xbe to default.xbe or if you're running from a devkit
or rename default_retail.xbe if you're running from a retail kit"

When he says kit I am assuming he means the regular Quake II game version is applicable is that true?

Please help I am at a loss. uhh.gif

Yes I know what you mean.

You have to change the name to default.xbe of the xbe you wish to run.

I have done this and tried both with the same results.

It's the term "kit" that has me wondering.

You think "kit" is referring to the Xbox. I thought it might be referring to Quake II.

I just want to get this working. Without my DVD working I am limited to no games since I installed Evox and PBL after the drive went out I haven't had a chance to backup my games.

I am just wondering what version of Quake II have been used with success. I am using the original PC release of Quake II.

Do a normal install on your PC. Then send all the files over to your xbox. Then send over all the Q2x files over into the same directory. As for the XBE file, simply rename default_retail.xbe to default.xbe

Here's how ya fix the blue screen...I screwed mine up by trying to put the video mode for HDTV(which I don't have :-[  ).

The key is to know you're actually manipulating the menu, you just can't see it.
press the A button @ startup of Quake 2x
press down 3 times then press A again
(you're now in the video menu)
press down once, and hit left on your d-pad a bunch of times in order to make sure the video is on the lowest setting.  Now press A.
It should restart the video mode, If not you probably didn't have the same scenario as I.
Hope this helped someone.

Or, the alternative, if it did start up once, and you screwed up the video settings, just delete the savegame from the MS Dash, and load up Quake2x again.

beerchug.gif  !!

Not shure if it's a configuration problem or a glitch, but the Quake II beta3 dosn't work on my machine.

I was double checking everything so I went back and DL beta3 & beta2.

Beta2 works without a hitch!!! biggrin.gif

Looking Good

Thanks for all the input.

This is really a great site/forum keep up the great work

I love this stuff  beerchug.gif

Yes I deleted everything and started from scratch.

Does anyone out there have beta3 running OK on a V1.0 XB?

Just curious
