XBMP can do 1080i, but ive never tried it.
it is still in development... even if it could im not sure that the xbox has the power to scale 480p to 1080i i hope it can tho.. i would love this, i too have a fairly new 47 incher

i havent heard of anyone running flicks in 1080i ...if anyone has let us know please.

Dvd movies are burned at 480p.  You would have to upconvert that to 1080i which you would not really get a better picture.  Dvd movies are maxed out till the next technology comes along.
