for now i guess you can still rip the movie on the computer and then transfer either the .avi or .mpg files over to the xbox...but yeh a DVD Movie ripper would be awesome...

Sounds good to me, especially as the only DVD drive I have is in the Xbox (my 'box is more powerful than my PC, and I don't want to buy a new PC just yet).

IMHO thats insane, my HDD has 80 gig used up for M$ system stuff, Utils and games, so with VOb files 4-6 gig I could only fit at most 10 movies.

seems like a pointless app when the PC can offer unlimited storage and compress to Divx (1 gig = 40 movies).

Do what one of my friends done, ring a telephone installer and put Cat5 through your house (cost him $75USD), Then use relax for playing your movies. 120gig HDD does not go very far.

This is what I refering to as insane,

To have an app on the xbox that will Ripp & encode to DivX is interesting, especially if the encoding time is less than 5 hours,

sorry I'm just being an arse, read my post more carefully and you will realise I'm taking about a 120Gig HDD, less 80gig (games+mp3)
leaves 40 gig for movies, 1 gig divX movie = 40 movies.
