Does anyone knows what the smallest signed xbe is?
If its about the same size as the sig, it would be fun for me studying it.

Sorry for getting offtopic.
Ontopic:

Is the arcade cd written backwards? I reckon it isn't.
What is the format of how the cd is written?

With out the XBE being signed you can't just get it to run from a "noarmal" DVD(-R) or CD-R(W). We have to figure out some other way....

yes, but unfortunately it's NOT POSSIBLE. the BIOS wouldn't even try to boot xboxdash.xbe if the hdd was unlocked.

I think you are misunderstanding.. locked/unlocked hdd has nothing to do with signed/unsigned .xbe. By default all xbox hard drive is locked. When xbox bios try to boot, it first try to unlock the hdd. If the hdd is already unlocked then it cannt unlock it again so from the logic of retail BIOS it assumes there is something wrong and it gives you "error 6" or "error 7".

I know that the xbox BIOS goes like -> init video, show logo, init rest of the chipset (incl. IDE channel), detect master, then does the unlock thingy, detect slave, lock thingy, boot from M$dash.

But WTF would M$ make a media flag for UNLOCKED HD'S for then?

wrong. if they tried to unlock it again, nothing would happen. the hdd would still be unlocked, however...

there are two different "unlocked" states
fully unlocked - like if you used hdlock to unlock your drive
temporarily unlocked - like when the xbox is on, the hdd is temporarily unlocked - when power is taken away the hdd will relock again

the xbox knows the difference - if it's the first one - no go.
it probably checks to see if the hdd is unlocked before unlocking anyway.
