Mxm Help?
« on: February 07, 2003, 06:19:00 PM »

i was wondering if i could get help with changing the sky animation & logo in mxm.  i have the source...and i've read the readme file...but i can't locate those two files.  its not that i don't want them there--but i'd rather they match my menu screen.  i'll keep it saying mxm...just want to design my own logo for it, so that it matches everything else.
pretty much my question is, where would those two files be located??

btw-great app!!

Well they are generated with a little app I made to convert the binaries JPG/PNG files into "*.cpp" format.

It's in the BinData.cpp file....

g_pbLargeLogoData

and

g_pbSkyTileData

I used the app I wrote, BinToCSource to create some files, and cut-and-pasted the source, with the appropriate changes, to the files where they are at.

It's a bit of a pain in the ass, but it works. Just look a the code whereever  you see those symbols.

BTW: I just added a "Matrix Effect" as a possible init screen. I will have them selectable with a simple patching. There are currently three options in the "Work-in-progress" for 0.9g, Matrix, and the Sky with Large or Small logos. A tool will be released to patch the hard-coded option selection for this. I may add one more, a lightning bolt/plasma effect behind a glowing logo.

The Matrix at least gives a "darker" init screen. I'll have to add color options for it as well (currently just green on black).

I developed the effect (with the symbols "falling" in columns) as an object, so it was also easily added to the screen saver. I'm going to offer more options on the screen saver as well.

The other thing I want to do is break out the sound buffers and do some visualizations in the screen saver, too.

i like that matrix one!!  can't wait to get the new version.
i have v. 9f...works great.

here's an idea of what i' want my boot screen to be...  i pretty much took the video file and photoshopped it with the logo i made to get an idea of how it'll look.   you might not want to use it--but if you do i can send you the vid file and the png/jpeg/gif file...

(stupid freepichosting.com killed the pic quality--but you still get the idea)
the vid file is really cool--its a comet that swifts passed the earth and smashes into it.

well, ok, i'm going to try to get it to work now...   blink.gif

A video might be a bit much as an init screen... but it looks nice.

My basic idea for the init screen was to keep everything internal, and the video files can't be run from memory without quite a bit of work. I've built the init screens to use few resources from memory (sky tile, logo and matrix symbol fonts are fairly small, all loaded from the xbe itself)

I'd love to see the video when you are done.  biggrin.gif

Oh... for those with access, "Work In Progress" 0.9g has been updated.
