I would recommend just buying a new box to go on live rather then spending all the time on trying to get around getting banned. Eventually, even if you do get around the current ways of detection, they will come out with a new one and you will get banned again, and yet once again will have to find a way to get around it.

Bottom line: Use a virgin xbox to play on live, it might cost $150, but it saves you a LOT of time and you don't ever have to worry about getting banned.

I'm tinkering with my box at the moment to try and fit my retail drive in there as well as my 80G.  That would be the best solution because there would be 1) No modchip for M$ to detect if they start banning that way and 2) No chance of being banned using the latest x2 bios.

Only thing is it is looking like it is going to involve some fairly extensive hardware modifications.  It has been succeeded relatively easily for 1.2 boxes and above (might be 1.1 as well, i forget), because they use a heat sink which can be cut back to make room with no really bad impact.  Only 1.0 boxes are looking like a bitch to mod...

Couple of things:  first, moderators should make a sticky for your procedure that doesn't allow replies (except by you!)

Yeah Dude you should call 1-800-4MYXBOX and ask them if your account is still active and you have to call them to cancel a previous one anyway.  So call them and someone will be happy to help you.  I've called that number so many times.

It's what they get paid to do.  You are a MS customer so you deserve to call without worrying.

Hope you get everything sorted out.  biggrin.gif

From what I have gathered you account is till active if they haven't sent you an email stating otherwise.

You could try using the account recovery option on the new box.  It seems the people who's accounts were closed were the ones on "Micro$oft's List".  Probably the ones playing backups on Live.

Edit: spelling mistake

Is it for certain that M$ is checking for changed xboxdash.xbe's?  So us softmodders are out of luck?  Sorry, I've been kind of away and I hit this thread late.  I read that somewhere, but I can't get a solid answer.

Ipodder, I haven't actually tried a change of xboxdash.xbe on my new box yet. I can try sometime in the future when I have a couple backup eeproms. Anyhow, just be careful, it's a definate possibility.

BTW, I'm going to unpin this thread. It seems to be dieing off and everyone seems to be aware of the situation. If you need more assistance feel free to visit the XBOX Live forum.
