I recently softmodded my friends xbox, and everything seemed to work out fine. Except, when i tried to play any game, retail or not, it would freeze as soon as you press start to get into the menu. I have no idea whats causing this, and i really need help. I softmodded it by using xboxhdm and a mod someone gave me.
It had a BFM bios on E with boot.cfg and such.. im guessing PBL but for some reason it doesnt have the black screen whent he bios is loading after the MS symbol. ANY help would be appreciated.

The very same thing happened to myself as well.  Only, I can play non-live games and NOT any game that has live capabilities...  I am thinkg the xodash folder might be corrupt but am not 100% sure.

if anyone else has idea's or encountered this, please help!

Hey i found out i had the same thing as you, i loaded a non live and it worked.. what i did was resend xodash, and the 2 xboxdashdatas i had (folders) back over through ftp, deleted all the saves and just sent the ones that were ABSOLUTELY needed.. leave a message if this doenst help

Yep, appeared to work for me as well.  I noticed the xonlinedash was a different file some for some strange reason!  1.7md originally and 1.8 after the mod.  Corrected it for me!

I usually rename xodash to ~xodash everytime I softmod for my friends.

it prevents accidental entry to live via the original xboxdash.

and even during gameplay , accidental entry to xbox live via the game dash will only result in the xbox rebooting into the hacked dash rather than seeing the error 21 screen..

Nice farbird.  I just had a friend the other day who's 5 year old brother was playing on his xbox and then when he got home, he got an error 21.  He had it hook up to lan since we usually have lan nights over there.  I'll have to keep that in mind... thx  :lol:

I had the same problem, and found that it can occur when you have upgraded the hdd to a larger one.I managed to fix it simply by deleting the the cache folder on drive E:

I did two boxes back to back and had the same issue with the second one.  The cache folder was deleted multiple times yet the same issue occurred even after renaming the xodash which prevents accidental online updates through ms.  But the real problem is is that some of us ignorant bastards attempt to keep the saved game files from udata which is the culprit to hanging when a game loads.

I found this out by placing in a new live game and running it a-ok.  Then figured out that it must've been because I have played it before, saved game folder, duh delete it.  Even after reading everyone stating to delete their udata and tdata folders less the "required" folder.

So take it from me, mr 3 days of rebuilding the hd, delete your damn saved games and just get it over with!  Oh and if your having difficulty with the pbl with either s-video or wireless game pads not working properly, utilize nkpatcher.  So much easier, albeit unknown how other upgraded bioses would work with it...

The best way that I found that works the best and you don't need a bios loader is to use the updatefonts71 it comes with UnleashX, which is a pretty sweet dashboard, and nkpatcher.  Alls you do is erase your C drive and put in the fonts folder and the xboxdash.xbe and then replace the bert-generic file with a bert file that corresponds to your kernal version.  Example if your kenral version is 5838 use the bert-5838-01.xtf instead the generic one.  And then all of your stuff works great the only downfall is not being able to use your msdash, but I'm trying to figure out ways to use that as of right now.  UnleashX comes with a dashboard similar to the Xbox dashboard.
