Can You Run Xbox Games Off A Pc?
« on: December 29, 2002, 11:40:00 PM »

I know you can run them off the Xbox HD, but if the PC is networked, with a program running on the PC, does anyone think it could play isos and such right off the PC? I was thinking about speed limits and such, but I think 100 is fast enough...I could be wrong though.  It would be a huge time saver.

Also, those programs to play Xbox games right off the Xbox HD, they can read isos, right? I think it would also be good if they could read rars...namely multifile rars....
But I'm just getting lazy now....

Thanks for anyones help, and if I said something stupid, and you think it wasted your time, just think how much more time it is going to waste writing a giant flaming reply, like "Go search google f***ing nub! You ain't 1337!" Sorry, sometimes I go on for too long...

This would be quite slow, considering the speed limits on FTPing PC<-->Xbox, and having to extract the ISO/RAR on the fly, it would be more of a pain than it's worth.

Not true, ever heard of daemon tools?  You can map an iso as a drive, plus loading from the network would most likely be just as fast as loading from the DVD driver, some cases maybe faster.....definitely faster than cd-r, cd-rw....if this was ever possible.....you wouldn't notice a difference

vulgusprofanum
where did you see that info. about the software Parata.

i dont see why this could not be done. i'm sure thre is a way to make the box thing or able a networked drive. i dont think the speed problem would have anything to do with it.
the hard drive would be loaded in to memory and you can look in the drive just like a pc.

- has anyone tryed to hook up a firewire port to the box yet that also has networking built in. its fast as can be to.

- i know there is a way to place a usb mod on the controller but what is the speed of the usb 1.0 or 2.0 if its 2.0 then the hard drive would run fast just like access on your computer.

The project Parata requires some hardware it is not a software only solution you can find out about it on Numbnut's Webpage.

This chap is one of the main bods on the xbox linux project. I guess he gets bored burning cds.

This is not entirely what you are after though. You may as well just buy a large hard drive instead of going through the hassle and expense of building one of these boards (when its complete).

God knows how you would do that.

The XBox uses USB1.1 (which runs at the same speed as 1.0).
