X3 Bios Booting To Xbmc
« on: November 06, 2008, 12:20:00 AM »

Hey guys, i've got an X3 CE that i'm trying to get to boot to XBMC.
My XBMC is locaed in F/Apps/XBMC so the default.xbe is there. When
I try to put that in the X3 bios boot priority it tells me that it's too long
of a file name to use.  I would gladly run it off of C: but with all the skins
it's too big. I used Slayers Evox 2.7 to set up the HDD.  Anyone know how i
can go about getting this done?

Use the shortcut to point to your XBMC installation, and put the shortcut in the root of your boot drive. If you use T3CH it's in the archive under tools, or you can download it here. The link also contains instructions.

Thank you sir, I will read up and follow up.
I'm guessing you did the same thing with your X3?

Yes. I had exactly the same problem with the path and dashboard name being longer than 16 characters, and the shortcut fixed it easily. It also makes upgrades easier, because once you've set it up the updater script that comes with T3CH also updates the shortcut to point to the new installation, so your dash shortcut always points to your latest version.
