Nice Idea this disk smile.gif

i have a PAL xbox 1.0 with built in mode2+3 cable and a sync chip...

is it possible to embed eeprom settings in the bios to make the xbox NTSC while this bios is loaded.. also it would be nice if the HD modes (480P, 720P) where enabled

edit: Also.. i have my disks partitioned for .67 bioses sad.gif

Oh yes, most definately.

Having those pins enabled makes the XBOX think a SCART connector is plugged in 24/7, and it needs to be HDTV and not SCART.

I would recommend installing switches instead of soldering. You will have to de-solder those pins before this mod will work...  sad.gif

I was getting ready to make a vga to component video cable and a vga port on the back of my xbox when I remembered I had an extra Hi-Def Component Video Cable for my xbox... So I'm just gonna order a VGA to Component cable for a few bucks and save myself the time smile.gif

Also just to verify, this bios does use a different named ini config file than the standard x2.5035 bios correct? If not I guess I'll just have to hex edit it myself to do so  dry.gif

Awesome work!

I love that you made this for us! Thank you so much!
I'm trying to use it on my Krayzie Ndure 1.1.1 softmodded ver. 1.1 xbox with samsung drive. I extracted the dummy file with moogui and rebuilt the iso, then burnt it to cd. I edited the path of the x2config.ini to go to my dash "dash1Name = e:\Dashboard\default.xbe".
I currently use the VGA mode of the softmod with my SOG compatible Samsung monitor with BNC RGB connectors attached to a HDTV cable.(I also have an s-video cable soldered to this cable, with no switch) It works beautifully except with a few Mixed region games that have screen tearing or sync issues. DOA Ultimate being the chief culprit and some games as well as XBMC have the purple tint 720p issue.

Upon booting the disc with softmod's VGA mode turned off, I see the excecuter loading message, then my dash (unleashX) boots and it is still garbled on an NTSC TV, and blank on the VGA monitor.

When booting the disc with the softmod's VGA mode turned on I get a blank screen on the monitor.

In both cases I know that the dashboard has booted, by the sound of the HDD loading, but I can't get a usable signal.

Please let me know if I have to do some additional configuring in my softmod because I would love use this software #(

You need to remove the first backslash ( \ ) in your x2config.ini file...

It should be like this:

dash1Name = e:Dashboard\default.xbe

So, it should be <driveletter>:<directory>\<dashboard's default.xbe>

Weird I know, but it's how Xecuter chose to do it.  blink.gif

Also, make sure the x2config.ini file is on the ROOT of your 'E' drive. (e:\x2config.ini)

Oh, and also, are you 100% sure the CD-R is booting? I would recommend trying a DVD-R with my pre-made image file first.

Actually I typoed my first reply. I do have the .ini file configured as
dash1Name = e:Dashboard\default.xbe , without the 1st backslash.

My .ini file is also in the root of the e drive.

I'm fairly sure that my dash is booting because I can see the garbled and rolling loading image of UnleashX dash on the NTSC TV, through the s-vid connector I soldered on.

I noticed that IGR is on in the x2config.ini file. My softmod also has IGR on, should I edit the x2config.ini to turn it off. I already have the file x2_IGR_disabled on the root of my e drive, which I thought is supposed to disable it.

I didn't want to waste a DVD for such a small file, but I will burn one just to use the process of elimnation.

Edit: Tried a DVD with your original iso image and I got the same exact results. I will try disabling the IGR on the x2config.ini and see if that has any effect.

Thanks again.

Well I tried to edit my post but the edit button will not show for some reason.

I turned off IGR through editing the x2config.ini. No difference happened. I also confirmed that my dash is indeed booting as I can both FTP to the xbox and see garbled parts of the UnleashX screen saver text moving on my NTSC TV.

Hs anyone else with Krayzies softmod been able to try this out and confirm the results I'm getting?

Thanks again to all who have, will help.

P.S. @ Frosty: Do you have any links for a tut on how to compile nk patcher 11 so I can just add the VGA changes made to my existing softmod?

Do you also happen to be using a softmod? If so which one? If hardmodded, which method, and or BIOS. I figure this info may be important to frosty so he can isolate who this problem is happening to. (Of course this is on the condition he wants to. I have no authority to speak for him.)
Thanks in advance DeadPrez, I thought it was just me.

This may seem silly (and shouldn't matter either way) but do you guys have 480p enabled in the Microsoft Dashboard?

It shouldn't matter because this BIOS forces 480p anyway, but it might be a bug...

Once again I thank you for your time as I know you made this soft as a service to the community and I respect that.

It doesn't matter if I turn 480p on or off in the MSdash, it still has the same effect.

I have also tried turning on and off some of the settings in my UnleashX dash in regards to video e.g. 480p, 720p, 1080i, fast refresh, video mode autoselect, forcing NTSC, and force PAL-60. I will continue to experiment with those settings and see if I get any different results.

Here is the way I have my softmod and dash video settings configured if it helps.

Krayzie Softmod- force RGB on, force progressive off
MSDash- 480p ,720p enabled, normal aspect ratio
UnleashX- 480p ,720p enabled, normal aspect ratio, fast refresh rate on, auto change video mode off, force PAL-60 off

All these settings work great for my set-up, so far for all my games and softs (excepting of course, 720p purple tint problems in apps such as XBMC). I discovered that my screen tearing issue was due to having the s-video cable plugged in at the same time as the monitor. Once I uplugged it the screen tearing disappeared. The only thing I can't get to work is your vga disc.

If I missed any pertinent info, please let me know.

ok im a bit confused now, i have this booting on my pal xbox!

i wanted to get linux working so i tried this, pins 13 and 14 always connected, mode 3 then i have a 3 pole switch with the middle pole going to pin 12 and left pole going to pin 11 and the right pole to pin 9, which i thought would give me the option of selecting between modes 1 and 2.

now if i boot my xbox as ntsc with mode 2+3 the dashboard (unleash) has a green tint but games load fine but if i boot in pal i have the right colours in my dashboard and games boot fine, in both pal and ntsc i cant select 480p or 720p, and if i boot in 1+3 modes i get nothing.

i was trying to enable 1+3 so my linux would not boot with a green tint, but ow linux wont load at all green tint or not? do i just have to have 3 switches? and use a different ground for each switch?

im very confused right now!

If anyone cares, I finally got around to finishing off my internal sync mod for perfect VGA on every screen.
there are a few things to note that got this mod working
I powered the 74HC14 from 2.4V  at that voltage the trigger for the HC14 is just under 1.5V so it gets the maximum voltage possible for compatibility with most screens. I got this voltage from the 3V pin on the power connector and dropped it across a diode (3 - 0.7drop = 2.4) with a resistor to load the circuit to keep it at 2.4V
i fixed the lines going down the screen by adding filter capacitors across the power for the 74hc14 so now its flawless (a 10uF and a 1nF capacitor in parallel did the trick)

and I am using Frostys vga bios (the BFM version from the boot disk) of course. thanks Frosty. I decided not to flash the bios cos I am using a TSOP mod and I want to be able to dual boot retail and a non multiversion bios. so I have a 4973 bios booting directly to the BFM bios to load up VGA.

if there is any interest in this cheap but difficult mod, tell me and i will post schematics and stuff in the hardware > Audio/Video Technical section
