Don't worry to much about temp. I have a 300GB hdd and run my fan at 50%. My Xbox stays cool and the hdd temp stays cool.

The bios is set to 20% fan - the thing I'm worried about is if the temp is wrong and the fan turns off with the auto temp control and it gets too hot. I have XBMC set to auto 40 degrees C. Does anyone know if the Yoshihiro bios gets accurate temps?

Cheers

v1.6 XBOXes do not show correct temperature readings regardless of the BIOS you use. The v1.6 is a flawed version, IMO.

I would recommend that you bump up your fan to about 30%, and do not use automatic temperature controls on a v1.6 XBOX.

Would you recommend buying a v1.4 or 1.5 xbox and selling off my 1.6? Are the lower versions much better?

Honestly, I don't like anything above v1.1, and I personally ONLY use v1.0 XBOXes.

But it's up to you, technically there isn't a huge difference between the versions, except the v1.6. I'm not really a big fan of them... due to not having a TSOP, no native VGA support (my VGA patchers do not support v1.6 XBOXes), and the temperature issues.

Does XBMC get its temperatures in another way?

Honestly I don't know, it's always been messed up for me...

AFAIK, most new XBMC releases do show the correct temperatures, but i'm not using the most recent build currently. (i'm not a huge fan of the interface changes)

is there any relatively easy way to test if the temperatures are correct?
