Topic.

Everyone seems to prefer the X25035 BIOS... what makes it so much better than other BIOSes?

I have to agree with the first two posts. Being able to easily config the 5035 bios and FTP it to the Xbox is nice. You can easily play with the settings until you got it how you want it with no flashing required...

Yes, if they could only remove that stupid "X2 CONFIG LIVE LOADING...." on boot, I'd use it too.

I'm a n00b to xbox modding, but not to console modding in general and not to the concepts of booting computers, and it seems wrong to me that the BIOS looks for configuration files on the HDD.  Surely it's better to have all the configuration self-contained in the BIOS (like EvoX M8+)...  seems like there's a fundamental issue with the order in which things are initialised if it needs something off the HDD before it can even display the boot logo?  Just my £0.02....

Cheers,
Andy

not really, the x2 50365 bios will boot just fine with it's own set of defaults if no config file is found on the HDD. but if you want to tweak things it's just a case of changing a few lines in a config file - no using tools on your pc to edit the bios then ftp back to your xbox and a reflash. this make it much quicker and more user friendly. also there are alot more things you can tweak with the x2 bios.

Will X2 bios work on my chip (Aladdin XT 4032)? Will EvoX's M8+ work? I take it I should go with the X2; it seems to be the popular one. I don't know which bios I'm running now, it just says 'unknown' on the dash.

Depends on your chip's capacity. If it doesn't have at least a 512kb bank, you can't use the 5035.

The M8 is 256kb (as small as they come).

This seems as good a place as any.

I am about to mod my xbox for the first time. I have Xecuter 2.6 CE ship...I am not sure what version of xbox i have yet since it hasn't been rippied open. Hoping to have everything ready first.

Question is to what bios should I use? There are so many...I am afraid of choosing the wrong one. huh.gif

I currently have a modded xbox that was done for me about 2 years ago. It has the Xecuter2 lite chip...not sure what bios. Is there a way to tell? I am hoping to get all the same functionality out of my new one as I do with the old. I can currently Backup/play games, FTP,watch Divx and use homebrew/emus.

Any advice for a first timer? smile.gif

Most all recent bios, have the same functionality as it comes to those things you have mentioned. The main difference between the bios in my mind is possible customization issues such as the boot screen and such... That said I would pretty much say that the X25035 bios is probably the most used bios for such a chip as you have. So I'd go with that one... I have 2 xboxs running that bios and they don't give me any issues. Also, when you download the bios file you will download two files, make sure you use the one that is compatible with your xbox... like you said, you don't know the version number of your xbox yet but you will want to know this... one bios file will be good for any version from 1.0-1.5 while the other is specifically made for a 1.6

Sweet thanks,

Should I use the official release or an unofficial? Thats something else that confused me. Because as I read somewhere, the official releases don't allow you tp play backups...is this true?

Then as this sounds dumb, when I use the X2 bios manager, is says that since it is 512k and not only 256k...
It pops up saying that it will split between both banks.(the first 2 box's) Is that ok? and do I need to have the full 1024k or not?
Will using only half work or do I "have" to fill all four banks. (even though it only has 2 banks on chip)

Sorry to bombard...just a bit cautious since I don't wanna ruin my chip.
