QUOTE (PedrosPad @ May 22 2004, 01:26 AM)
If all this proves true (and I strongly suspect it is) it would produce an “update” exploit that would allow directing booting to Evox, etc. (It can’t get easier than that), with absolutely no risk of clock-loop.  The holy grail?

I think so.  If it proves stable, this pisses on all other exploits.

Have the bert_ate_ernie fonts running beautifully booting PBL 1.4.1.
Very fast startup I might add. Seems to be a quicker boot than the past fonts.
I unplugged for 10 minutes to check the clock loop and everything works great. No loop! RMENHAL is definately our god. Looks like someone needs to start up a new thread on this one HAHA.

Consider this as work-in-progress and take appropriate precautions.

The above bothers me, I will have to see more positive results (I'll try it out myself also). After, either rmenhal or PedrosPad will start a new thread and it will be pinned (no one else start one).

Thanks goes out to:

rmenhal & PedrosPad, or should I say PedrosPad & rmenhal wink.gif

Special thanks to: Iriez, for listening to me and putting these threads on the front page of xbox-scene.com to get the attention they deserved.

K: 4817 D: 4920.

But..
Remembering that update.xbe looks at C:\fonts\, then C:\, I renamed C:\fonts\ to C:\F0nts\ (a zero in place of the ‘o’) and installed bert_ate_ernie.xtf to C:\.  To my mind, this keeps the two update exploit files closely-coupled - both being on C:\, and means that I can launch a renamed Dashboard 4290 from Evox, by simple changing the one byte in the 4290's XBE’s "C:\fonts\" path, leaving the original 4290 fonts in C:\f0nts\ with their original extensions.  (And I've some further ideas about restoring 'safe' Dashboard access to the XBOX!Live console that'll require this deployment wink.gif )

Some test result :
1) K:4034 (update.xbe from 4920 dash). Works flawlessly. No reboots yet.
2) K:5101 (update.xbe from 4920 dash). Works flawlessly. No reboots yet.

Will test with a reset clock also.

Edit:

I made a fonts folder for bert-ate-ernie and put the retail fonts in font5. Then changed a few bytes in the tHC default.xbe to look in font5. I my opinion the fewer files in C: the better   cool.gif

Check out the first post of the double-dash thread. Has instructions for extracting.

For those of you having trouble extracting:

1. Copy the code into a .txt file.
2. Rename to "updatefonts.b64".
3. Install ICEOWS.
4. Open "updatefonts.b64" within ICEOWS.
5. You should see "Unknown.001".
6. Open this file with WinRar.
7. You should now see a file named "Unknown".
8. Once again, open this file with WinRar, just as before.
9. You should now see your files.

Angerwound wrote this and put this in "Working Double-dash Exploit" topic a lil while ago

Great minds, eh? smile.gif

My idea will be easier to execute if only font folder name is changed, rather then the original fonts XTF extensions (which is how most of us currently reach the MS Dashboard from Evox).  Although there nothing to choose between our chosen folder names, please can I push that we standardise on C:\f0nts\ (with the zero character) (coz I posted first tongue.gif wink.gif ). (A note to all those hurriedly turning this into a _Package wink.gif ).

No objections  biggrin.gif
Although I dont see how you could pull of accessing the live console when running a hack uhh.gif
I would think that having any xbe look in C:\f0nts would require editing, which means having replace the key in memory. Wouldn't that mean you would get banned when accessing the live console?

This may help.

updateExploit:
C:\xboxdash.xbe – Dashboard 4290’s xodash\update.xbe renamed.
C:\bert_ate_ernie.xtf – rmenhal’s new update.xbe font exploit.

All you need to boot a habibi signed E:\default.xbe!  (Linux loader, PBL, Evox, etc.)

Optional extra:
C:\MODxboxdash.xbe – Dashboard 4290’s xboxdash.xbe renamed, and Hex edited to change "fonts\" to "f0nts\" (note the zero in place of the 'o') – there are 2 occurrences.
C:\f0nts\XBox Book.xtf - Dashboard 4290’s original font from C:\fonts\
C:\f0nts\Xbox.xtf - Dashboard 4290’s original font from C:\fonts\

The M$ Dashboard 4290 can now be reached by launching C:\MODxboxdash.xbe (via Evox, etc.) - for setting ya clock wink.gif or copying custom sound tracks, etc. – It’s actually technically possible to launch the XBOX!Live console from the modded 4290 Dashboard – I’ve discovered it doesn't require C:\fonts\ folder! –but don’t or you’ll get banned. (at the moment wink.gif )
