Is It Safe For Me To Flash
« on: September 17, 2005, 09:01:00 AM »

Update, i tried to flash my xbox using the slayer 1.6 disc, and i chose a bios on the disc, it was 4981 .06 or something, but it came up with error flashing , it didn`t even start writing cos my xbox still boots into evox fine, so  ive took my xbox apart and have discovered a chip with what looks like a paralell port on it, on the chip there are two prongs where a jumper could go, do u think this is to enable flashing???..please help, i wanna play doom 3!!!

I don't think it has anything to do with your BIOS.  All a BIOS does is allow you to run unsigned code.  Nothing's really changed that much since the first BIOSes.  If all you want to do is play Doom 3, then update your dvd2xbox.  If you're still insistent that it is your BIOS, find your xbox version and post a pic of the chip.

It looks like an old LPC modchip which is probably not flash-upgradeable.  What did you use to backup the game?  Try redoing it with the newest dvd2xbox.  I doubt it's your BIOS, and seeing how you can't flash a new one to that chip, you might as well try what I said.  If that doesn't work, install the DuoX 2 and flash it with X2 4981.06.  Just to make sure it isn't flash upgradeable, will everybody take a look at this picture, I've never seen a chip like it, but I'm guessing it is an old cheapmod which probably can't be upgraded without a programmer.

This is more a question for my own knowledge,
but DVD2Xbox won't fix the problem with the game thats already on the HD right?
You would have to delete the game from your HD and recopy it using DVD2XBOX (as opposed to Boxplorer etc..) and when you do that, the prog patches the default.xbe file and saves a backup of the original .xbe..  correct?

Another reason that  you might have problems with some games is if IGR is on..
depending on which EvoX you have.. check your settings and see if there are three instances of IGR in the settings, if so you have an older version of EvoX and you should turn off all instances of IGR.
Also clearing your cache files.. I cant remember where they are if someone could help on that, I think either in the Z: drive,
or somewhere in TDATA or UDATA folders..
I was having problems with some games like crimson skies and a few others not playing on my box and that fixed it.. since then I've also started copying games W DVD2XBOX and I've updated to EvoX 3593 (i think thats the right version #) which is the latest and only has one instance of IGR and supposedly the bug has been fixed to be compatible with 99.9% of games.
Hope this Helps

Seriously, stop with the blue text, it's hard to read and annoying.  You are correct about it not fixing the problem after it has already been saved to the hdd.  You could try clearing the cache by deleting the X, Y, Z, drives and everything in E:/CACHE (not the folder itself, just what's in it)  By the way, the latest EvoX is 3935, but I still don't think it solved the IGR.
