What Have I Done Wrong?
« on: August 28, 2005, 10:36:00 AM »

It's the third time I chip an xbox but this time I can't quite seem to make it work. Here's what I have done so far:

- Installing a Smart XX v.2 chip
- Installing a W-D 160gb hard drive
- Updating bios to version 3345
- Installing Evox M8 plus (1.6)
- Booting on my Slayer DVD to format the drive

Everything went fine but after formatting and installing I can't boot to the Evox dashboard. I load the M8 Bios and I see the Evox logo and the apparently new blue xbox logo but I always end up in the M$ dashboard. I tried other bioses suchs as x2 but I get the same result.

I'm not quite sure of the version I have though. The guy who soldered the chip said it was a 1.7 but I read that it wasn't possible. Smart XX website says it is though so I'm confused... One thing is sure, it's a brand new black xbox that went out after the 1.6 crystal edition.

Did I forget something? Do I need a special bios for this box?

Edit: I decided to boot ed@chip and I realize I don't have a F drive. I was pretty sure I used to "use F drive" function of the Slayer install but maybe I didn't. Would it stop the box to boot the Evox dashboard!?

I would check the BIOS config to see/change what dash is default. It may be looking for C:\default.xbe for example, but evox is evoxdash.xbe. Load slayer's again, and ftp in to your box. Checking the locations of each dash(evox, avalaunch, unleashX) so you can specify those locations in the BIOS.

AND...

If you use the 'F: Drive Format' on slayer's it leaves C:\ retail so you can go on LIVE!(with other precautions...), if you choose the C: Format option, it will install the dash you want(evox) in C: which is what you want.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the answer! I did not try the first option though since the owners won't be using xbox live so I simply loaded Slayer's again but used the standart F instead of stealth F. It's working like a charm! I f they ever want to go live I'll just back up the drive and try again! ;)
