Would Xboxhdm Work With A Usb Hard Drive?

Im wondering, it would things easier if I got a ide to usb converter so I wouldnt have to open my computer up every time I want to use xboxhdm.

the problem is that it would recognized as sda and xboxhdm is setup to work on hda.
