Question About Boot Drive F Vs C
« on: December 15, 2004, 11:26:00 PM »

Just recently modded a friend's 1.0 xbox with the X2 4983 bios and used slayer 2.6 to format etc... and I formatted it using the 'F: boot' option and now without the CD in it boots directly to the xbox dash.  I assume this means that my bios is set to boot to C, not F.

A few questions regarding this... from what I understand the F boot is done to 'hide' from LIVE... why is that, does LIVE check your C: drive now?

If it does check my C drive, then what bios should I use, or how do I edit my current bios to boot from F?

Thanks!

not entirely positive about how live bans people, but to be safe, I would just put everything on F, and leave C as stock as possible.  It sounds like you had slayers install the dash on F, while your bios is normaly set to boot as default to C.  You are gonna have to either install the dash on C, or reflash the bios.  You can edit the bios with Xbtool, I believe to change what xbe to boot.  However, i don't think xbtool supports the 4983 bios.  Get the 4981 bios instead, load it with xbtool, edit the boot priorities, and change whatever else you want, and you should be good to go.
